As a 925-rated MP40 player with about 350' of accurate distance, I've been using the L64 Gold Ballista as my go-to max-distance driver. However, I found that the Ballista tends to be a bit too understable when the wind picks up. So, I decided to visit my local shop and compare it to the Axiom Neutron Tenacity.

I picked up a 172g Tenacity in Neutron plastic, which had a parting line height similar to my Ballista.

Feel: The Neutron plastic on the Tenacity is noticeably stiffer compared to the L64 Gold. The rim width and depth felt comparable to my Ballista, but I’m not particularly picky about these details.

Flight: The Tenacity flies slightly more stable than the Gold Ballista, especially in the high-speed turn, with a stronger fade at the end. Right after purchasing the disc, I took it to my practice area and was able to throw it over 350' with ease, even managing a 385' throw into a 12 mph headwind. It's definitely one of my farthest-flying discs, and I have quite a few in my collection.

Overall, this disc is going into my bag as a more stable complement to my Gold Ballista.

#1 Hyzer flip distance driver in my bag. I tried the disccraft Hades among others and never found one I liked for that slot until this. The tenacity flips up and rides a rope 350' with a nice gentle finish when you give it some hyzer and sling it off the tee pad. I have even come to throw tunnel shots with this disc it flies so straight on the hyzer flip for me. Great big distance driver and good for someone just trying to get into high speed distance drivers. It covers ground fast like a 13 but has the ease of throwing an 11 speed

At 400 ft+ / 60 mph+ this makes a nice high speed roller or touchy hyzer flip disc. For slower arms looking to throw a max distance disc, I'd recommend a more overstable mold in ~160g in premium plastic or max weight with a mid level plastic. This thing is like a 13 speed champ mamba.

Love this disc. My intermediate arm strength doesn't typically bomb, but the tenacity flies just right for me.

Absolute bomber of a disc with a few caveats. It has a ton of lateral movement even with a hyzer flip so it is a no-go in the woods for me. If it's open and there's not a lot of wind I reach for my Tenacity.

It's a disc that will let you know when you get it wrong though. Any time you get your nose angle up it will stall really quickly and dump left.

I can usually throw my stableish Wraiths 350 on a solid throw and my Tenacity easily gets over 400

This disc is essentially Axioms version of the Hades and Tern and it absolutely bombs. Got me from 425 to about 455.

If you get the angle right this disc will give you a beautiful s-curve. I've found that it's pretty easy to burn over in a headwind, but it's pretty easy to control in most other conditions. Definitely recommend this disc for anyone looking for extra distance

Absolute bomber in the right conditions. I exclusively throw this when the wind is at my back or there's hardly any wind at all. If there is wind in my face or from the sides, the disc will dump real quick and it's very hard to control. Hyzerflip required!

Bought this hoping the extra speed would give me something just a little more stable than the wave. I find this flies almost identical but about 25 feet farther. It is very Flippy for a 13 speed and a hyzerflip is mandatory. With that, I like that this disc lands very softly so I do not get any unwanted ground play. I would say it's true to the numbers.

Stay away from the headwinds with this one because she turns hard.  Seems like effortless 400ft with low to no winds.  A touch flippier than my 2 Hades.

    A more reliable innova Tern.
Slightly more stable than my Hades.
I'm still working on touch with this disc but it is mine for sure. If you can throw a Tern or Hades 400' and need something a tick more reliable but still in the glidey/understable category- this is your disc.

Flight numbers are accurate. I have a 166g and 174g tenacity. I currently have the 166g in the bag and leave the 174 at home. I find myself using the 166g in 2 situations. The most common situation is when I need to launch a big drive with a tail wind behind me. The light weight of the disc helps it get pushed by the tail wind better than heavier discs do, and sails a little further than my other discs do. If you do not have a lighter weight understable distance driver like the tenacity, then you are most likely not realizing your full potential on tailwind drives.

The other situation this discs really works well in is tunnel shots that gradually turn to the left (I throw RHBH). If I through a more stable disc on these routes, it will fade too much and go into the woods on the left too early. If I release this on a hyzer, it will flip up near flat and just gradually turn to the left the entire flight giving me the flight path I need to park the hole.

This thing BOMBS. Good sized dome with great grip and glide. I typically have 400-425 ft of power, and I can get a good turn out of it, but it has enough speed and stability to fade out to the left at the end. Only time I have ever flipped it all the way over is into a headwind. For tailwinds and calm conditions, you'll be hard-pressed to find a disc than can fly farther,

If you have 350ft of power, then this disc will get you max distance with minimal effort, probably pushing you over 400ft. If you throw with more than 400ft of power, it might as well be a roller disc. I cannot believe how flippy this thing is with a little bit of power.

I'm currently using this disc to teach good forehand etiquette. I can forehand this to 360-380ft, but if I roll my wrist at all or have bad form, it'll flip and never come back.

    I'd personally rate the flight numbers as follows: 13, 6, -3.5, 1

This disc is to the Catalyst, what the Mayhem is to the Octane.  It will fill the same slot, but has a slightly different flight.  For me, the Tenacity has a little less turn and a little more fade than the Catalyst.  As I started to flip my Catalyst over, this disc eventually took its place.  I pull the Tenacity out when I need a long S line, or a hyzerflip shot, or even why I need to finish right.  A super versatile disc in the understable category.  This disc wil add a ton of reliable distance to lower arm speeds, as it should still flip a little when thrown flat, and have enough low speed stability to fade back when it should.

The Axiom Tenacity may be one of the better disc names in Gyro family, if not in all of disc golf, and I would say overall its flight holds up too. It took me a few throws to get my bearings with the disc, which seems to be what I have to do every time I throw an MVP or Axiom disc, but once I got it zeroed in, this disc goes pretty dang far. On a slight hyzer release the disc would pop up and just go straight and hold until it gave in to a gradual fade. But I would say this disc wasn't very forgiving for misfires. If I didn't put enough behind it or had a bad release, the disc would just fade out forever. If you are a Gyrohead and haven't found the new distance driver that fits you quite yet, maybe give the Tenacity a try.

Also for those who haven't thrown any of the newer super high speed drivers from the Gyro line, they are definitely a handful, and I would say they aren't as comfortable in the hand as regular plastic discs are. I felt like the rims dug into my palm and I felt it more after throwing several in a row--more than I have ever felt when doing field work with my regular high speed drivers that I keep in my bag. So, just a word of warning for those who haven't thrown them yet.

But all that being said, there really isn't anything negative to say about the flight performance. The disc flies true. Enjoy!

The Tenacity is a more straight-to-understable distance driver in the Axiom 23mm rim class (about a 12-13 speed disc). I liked the Mayhem, and this disc is slightly more understable, though not by much. It still has a dependable fade that brings it back at end-of-flight. I managed to get the Tenacity to pull significantly to the understable side (which is right for me, a right-handed, backhand thrower), but only when thrown hard with an anhyzer release. When thrown flat, it usually faded back for a straight finish, or slightly more to the left. I was also able to throw the Tenacity on a higher hyzer angle and it held its path very well, with respectable distance.

I threw the Tenacity with a comparison to the MVP Catalyst in mind, since they are quite similar in design, though the Catalyst has more of a dome than the Tenacity. I'd still have to say that I prefer the Catalyst more, since it has more glide, as least as a backhand thrower. The Tenacity might work as more of a forehand version of the understable Catalyst.

I would recommend the Catalyst as a great distance driver for those who can regularly throw at least 300 feet. It isn't going to necessarily make you throw further, if you're trying to compensate for a slower release, but it will go the distance very well if you already have the power to throw a disc in the 12-13 speed class.
