Although the numbers of the Zone SS are accurate, it slots into a really weird spot for me. When I throw it at full power, it flips over too much for me to be a reliable approach disc. If I power down on it, it flies very similar to a Zone, at least close enough to the point that I wouldn't need both. It also has a little more dome to it compared to the Zone, so the forehand feel isn't as good either.

I can see the Zone SS being really useful to a newer player, but I would bet that a lot of mid level players are going to find that it just isn't different or useful enough to replace their favorite approach discs in their bags.

This disc is excellent if you're looking for a beat-in zone or a throwable putter. I've always struggled with traditional putters, but the Zone, Zone OS, and Zone SS have changed the game for me. I truly believe that everyone should have a Zone in their bag. The Zone SS is a fantastic addition for any player. Personally, I find it ideal for throws up to 250 feet.

I wanted to like the ZoneSS. It's not as stable as I wanted it to be. I was really wanting it to be like an A5, Tempo, or like the Forged Chicane. I wanted it to be torque resitant and to have reliable, but sublte fade, ie 4/4/0/2. The Zone SS isn't that. TLDR: My expectations were not met and the disc didn't fit into my game personally. I can see this working for other people though. Slightly above average disc.

The handfeel of the ZoneSS feels like an approach disc and feels similar to a Zone, but not the same. The flight is very true to the numbers. It flies a lot like a beat-in Jawbreaker, or a putter plastic Zone. Is it a bad flight? No. It's just not a flight that I was expecting and not a flight that I find particularly useful. It's too OS for me to reliably get straight shots unless I'm mashing on it, which would only be in the open. If I need a disc to go 350 straight, then I'll disc up to a middie so I don't need to throw a full powered shot. It's also not stable enough for me to get reliable flex shots so there's that.

Ok, but it's an approach disc. How does it approach. Again, similar issues. It's not flippy enough for me to throw a flip up shot like I could with a flippy mid or a putter. It's also not stable enough to throw drastic flexes, forceovers, or for me to trust it in the wind. The best use case for approaches is those straight shots that you throw on a slight annie, very Nikolas Antila in nature. I hardly ever throw on a slight flex for an approach shot.

The Zone SS feels a lot different from the original Zone. It’s shallower in the hand with less rim to grip, but still has that flat top. Discraft rates it 4/4/-1/2, and I’d say that’s spot on. For me, it flies straighter with much less fade than the Zone, though it still finishes reliably.

I really like it for forehand approaches under about 230 feet. Any more power than that and it tends to turn over on me, so it’s not as stable as I’d need for longer forehand shots. Backhand it’s solid, but it won’t hold an anhyzer line for my power—it still fades out unless thrown low.

I compared it to my Clash Mint, which is my go-to approach disc. The flights are similar, but the Mint feels deeper and has a little more fade. Personally, I prefer the Mint because I like the plastic and shape better, but Discraft fans are going to love the Zone SS for those straighter approach shots where the regular Zone is too overstable.
