I picked up a cheetah out of curiosity and immediately fell in love with the hand feel. Over the past 4 months this has become my most thrown disc off the tee. It does struggle with windy conditions and uphill shots, but everywhere else I will reach for this disc!

This has been in my bag for the past 10 years.  A consistent straight and reliable flight.  I was able to get a champion cheetah a few years back when they were available and is by far my favorite disc.

The DX Cheetah has been a great first driver option for a very long time.  It goes straight and has excellent glide.  I used to carry one for patent pending and other scramble shots.  It is an older mold from Innova that has been tearing up fairways for a long time. It is just a lot of fun to throw.

Brand new disc golfer here. I quickly moved on from my Innova starter set as the discs all felt way too light for me. One of my first purchases was a 171g DX Cheetah and it has consistently been my top performing disc. I have decent power as a former Ultimate player, but my form is terrible. I have a long way to go, but my Cheetah has allowed me to consistently achieve par or even the odd birdie now and again on my local course. I have had more luck with this disc than any other "beginner friendly" fairway driver. I highly recommend this disc for beginners.

I have kept a Cheetah disc (serial disc) in my bag for close to 30 years and it more than once on every course.  It's an easy disc to get solid consistent throws with.  While great for beginners, I know a lot of experts who still use one.  If your new to disk golf, this one a great choose.

The Cheetah is a highly underrated disc IMO and a great tool for beginner and experienced players alike. This was the first standalone disc I ever bought that wasn't anything out of a starter set and some 50+ discs spanning several brands later, one I continue to bag. It was my furthest flying disc for a while when I was starting out and working on my backhand. The turn is great for getting extra distance as a beginner and as you improve it becomes a great disc to have when playing in woods.

The first disc I ever owned, back in 1994. I played for a few years with it as my only disc, before buying an XD to putt with. In modern times, a beat in (read: finely tuned) Cheetah can be a sweet tool on a wooded course.

This is the ultimate beginner driver and it does not get enough love. I understand why Innova puts the Leopard in starter sets, it goes farther for new arms and is a FANTASTIC disc.

But the Cheetah is a Leopard that will fade out. And playing the fade is such an important part of disc golf that I think this makes it a great tool for any new players. For people just starting out, it will reliably fade out for a while. Then it becomes a go to driver, the kind of disc that can help a hyzer or anhyzer or fly a nice shaped S.

That is not to say this disc is only for beginners. If more advanced players are looking for a true neutral, slow fairway, I would recommend the Cheetah. I understand why people do not like DX but in a mold this slow, they are much more durable than people give them credit for. Plus, that DX glide is for real.

The DX Cheetah is a great first fairway driver for beginners. The rim is a comfortable size and the DX plastic always offers great grip. This was my first fairway driver when I started playing and it offered a lot of control and helped to teach me how to throw the perfect S shaped shot.

The Cheetah is a great beginner disc that will get you a lot of extra distance from throwing mids and putters. It can be a great full flight disc when you develop the armspeed to throw this disc. I found that I could get it to flip up and get it to keep turn for a late flipping disc that won't come back. I couldn't throw it full power or it would dump and turn into a throller even on a sharp hyzer angle. But for a controlled woods disc this thing works really well. If you are a beginner you may find this disc to flip up to flat a little or even be to stable if you are extremely new. I would recommend this disc to new players that are stepping up from throwing mids who want that extra distance you can get from a fairway driver. I think this disc in an experienced players hand could be a great woods disc for something you need to throw with a lot of accuracy and need it to late flip for you. If you are new and want to get a driver that will benefit your form as well as give you extra distance than look no further than the cheetah.

The Cheetah is a great beginner disc. It's very easy to get up to speed for those with less power. It works well for tunnel shots & turnovers. I used a DX Cheetah when I first started to learn to throw rollers. When I saw a Factory Store Star Cheetah in stock I bought the last one.

Although the flight numbers indicate the Cheetah is nearly identical to the Leopard (the Cheetah has 2 fade, whereas the Leopard has 1) I have found that the cheetah has much more turn, but always fights back into a fade at the end. I bought a Cheetah for my 12 year old brother who is new to the sport, and it took some getting used to (and some MAJOR form adjustments), but eventually he was able to get it to fly as one might expect: in a smooth s-shape. I also let him try out my old Leopard, and he couldn't get that to turn for the life of him. It seems that his Cheetah is the only disc that he is able to throw with any consistency and straight. I have given this disc a try myself on occasion, and it feels faster than a speed 6 and has a little more turn than its -2 rating. I have to throw it at about 60% power to prevent it from turning over into a cutroll/roller. It has good glide, even when thrown somewhat softly. I would say that the Cheetah is a sub-par overall disc, but it is excellent for what it is made for: beginners.

When I first started playing a couple of years ago I was told that an Innova Leopard was a great first fairway driver, so I picked one up one in 166g Star plastic. I know that my form wasn't too solid back then, but man, that disc was just fading HARD after every single (unremarkable) throw. I found a random forum post that suggested that the Cheetah would be a better beginner disc, and so I ordered a 167g DX Cheetah in desperation . . .

Even with my lousy form it was a night and day difference! The Cheetah would barely turn and then have a nice, predictable fade. If I screwed up my nose angle (which I found easier to control on this disc), it would still stay on a relatively straight line for me. As my form improved, the disc would turn more before fading. It was definitely a thrill growing into the disc!

Now, after two years of hard use in the woods, it doesn't really fade back anymore, making for a reliable hyzer flip disc that, depending on the angle, will either pop up and go fairly straight or pop up and ride to the right (RHBH) before touching down flat. I just grabbed a 170g DX one to get that fresh flight and it flies true - reliable turn and reliable fade!

I highly recommend this disc to any beginner player. It's a comfortable, consistent disc and even now that my form has improved I still prefer it to the Leopard.

I LOVE THIS DISC!!! This was the first disc I learned to throw straight consistently. Now, after one year of playing 2-5 times a week this disc is still one of my go to control drivers. I can throw it consistently about 300 feet on any line that is needed. Highly recommend!!!!

The cheetah is a beginner’s dream! Great fairway driver for those new to the sport, as it holds whatever line you throw it on and gets quality distance with a little power behind it. Any new/younger players should bag a cheetah until your form and power are fine tuned

The Cheetah was one of the first drivers I threw when I started playing. It is a great disc for those new to the game. This is a very workable, nuetral fairway driver that really flies like you throw it. It can be used for gentle hyzers, straight shots, and sweeping anhyzers. Its a great disc to teach you better form before you try to throw more stable/faster discs.

This is a disc I have in my bag, but don't use that often just because it is only able to be used for certain circumstances for me. I love this disc as a forehand disc for midrange throws and approaches. Although it does not go very far for me as a forehand, I can control it pretty well. I have only ever been able to find this disc in DX plastic and the only disadvantage is that it becomes quite understable quickly through wear and tear. I would recommend this to beginners who are learning both forehand and backhand, and it is a great first fairway driver.

This is one of my First disc. I have one of the first ones. This disc is great straight flyer. Really good on downhill shots will flip a little but comes right back.

I have this one in DX Original 151g. I don't throw it that much but it lives in the bag for when I need it.

Great beginner disc, just a little more stable than the Leopard. So if the Leopard turns too much for you, give this a try. I hyzer flip this disc and it flies super straight all the way to the ground.

Ever try to throw a Pringles lid or a playing card? You know how flippy and uncontrollable that is? A beat-up lightweight cheetah will do the same. Headwind? Kiss it goodbye.

That being said, that recommendation comes courtesy of it being listed as a beginner disc.

Also, I love the cheetah. It was the first disc I learned to hyzer flip and it has a good feel to the rim... different... oldschool.

But I really like the cheetah because the one I have is nice and light and easy for a youngster or a newer thrower with slower arm speed to get some decent distance out of. I disagree with the comments that the leopard's a better choice. As a beginner, I found the cheetah to transition into distance way more predictable (with a good throw) than a leopard. Granted, when I was throwing both, I imagine I had terrible form, but I would always turn over a leopard or grip lock the thing when trying to "drive", which is something I rarely did with the cheetah; the release was always cleaner, which might have to do with the rim and how I held it.

As my arm got stronger, I had less use for this disc in my bag. I have a Lat64 diamond that serves the same purpose as I got from this disc with a bit more distance and predictability.

Still, the cheetah is cheap and easy to throw. Several people I know thought that the cheetah was their first disc that made them feel like they were progressing in this sport.

I have an old, super beat up Cheetah that is entirely unpredictable with how it will fly. It will turn over sometimes, fade out others.

However, I have found it to be phenomenal for short to medium backhand rollers. It holds a great angle and stays straight on the ground extremely well, and turns over just when you need it to. I play several courses that work well for lefty rollers, and this is my go to if its less than 350 feet.

Some people swear by Cheetahs, others swear at them. Beginning or weak armed players can get some of their best throws with them, but they will also get their worst. This disc has the highest "squirrel factor" of any disc I have ever used.  In other words, you do everything right, good grip, form, everything, and the disc does something squirrelly. Left, right, high, low, something you didn't intend. But it is not a bad disc just unpredictable.

As pretty much everyone else says, this is an awesome disc for beginners to start out with. This is a great disc for the novice and probably the first driver that I would point out to someone wanting to start playing DG. That being said, this is a really good fairway driver for those shots were you might not want to use a mid range, but you don't want to bust out the big guns with a distance driver. Good disc for anyones bag.

I picked up a Cheetah the other day. It is known as a beginner disc because it is understable and has a slower speed rating. It's easier for new players to throw straight, which is a plus. In reality, any skill level player can use this, although I haven't seen many professionals who put one in their bag. This disc will fly in an S-shape pattern, and still have some fade too it, but not too much for a beginner. If you are learning how to throw a driver, this isn't a bad one to pick up. I would recommend the leopard over this, because the leopard has a higher glide rating, and I think (might be mistaken) comes in more than just the dx plastic. But nothing wrong with this one!

This disc is great for beginners but if you are going to buy a disc then you should purchase the leopard, this disc is nice if someone gives it to you. It is kind of in the middle of a few other discs but it can be thrown well and it isn't too touchy to learn on. It has decent glide and a predictable light fade that might appeal to some, there are other discs that do what this disc does plus some. I still give it a 4 star rating just because it does fly well,I just don't throw it much.

    Can't go wrong!

The Cheetah, sadly, gets tagged a lot with the "begginer disc" label, even Innova labels it as such. The label isn't wrong, but it also oversimplifies it. The Cheetah can really be used by any skill level. I recently started throwing one in the bag for one specific hole at a new course I helped put in, and am re-falling in love with the good ol' Cheetah.

The Cheetah, being of an older generation of discs, is glidey and understable as was the fashion at the time. It's not super flippy, so even a huge cannon arm will be able to throw a Cheetah without it being an insta-roller. It's just a great, classic, understable fairway driver.

The only downfall is that the Cheetah is pretty much only produced in DX. There are other runs out there (like the Champion run which Infinite has in stock) but they are not full-time production.

175 gram DX Cheetah is a great fairway driver whether in the woods or out in the open. This is one of the very few discs that I can actually work an S-curve on without having to begin with hyzer or anhyzer. It does the work for you. The small rim fits well into my hands and gives confidence on release.
