    Disc: Innova DX Makini

Feel: This disc is pretty soft. It’s not a disc golf disc, it’s a disc you play catch with. It feels better than the cheap free frisbees you get, but takes a bit of getting used to.

Flight: I got this disc at a family disc golf event. They had 9 holes, and you had to play with this disc (They didn’t want someone getting smacked with a real disc). It took me a bit to figure out how to throw this, but once I did, it was a lot of fun! I got 2 inches from an ace, I hit the top of the chains and dropped out. I always throw this with hyzer, because I think I’m a bit too used to throwing real discs, I can’t help but put a bit of power into it. It flattens out well when thrown with hyzer.

Overall: This is the best disc for catch I’ve played with! I really enjoy throwing it around with my siblings, it’s fun! I’ve also been a bit amused by the fact that it can be thrown forehand with pretty good accuracy, that’s unusual for discs intended to be used for catch.

The Makani is a super fun disc from Innova, but I would not recommend this disc for regular disc golf use. I found the value in this disc as a nice warmup, catch and throw discc. It is a slow moving disc with lots of glide that made it easy to throw around with someone else. This is a fun disc, but not something I would have in my bag for a general round.

First off, I'll start by saying that this is NOT a traditional disc golf disc. This is a catch-and-throw disc first and foremost...and a very good one! With merely the snap of the wrist you can get the Makani to fly as straight as an arrow, and it is easy to catch because of the slow speed and very high glide.

With that being said, you COULD use it in disc golf because it is PDGA approved and would fit nicely into any "superclass" bag, alongside discs like the Zephyr, Condor, Beetle, etc. It is big, so actually fitting into the bag might be tough. But if you really wanted, you could use the Makani for warm-ups, trick-shots, or even slow-motion distance putts. It is categorized on this website as a mid-range, but you could definitely putt with it from outside the circle, where you might be just out of your comfortable range, so you want to approach with precision, yet have the disc just drop and stop within a couple feet of the basket.

    Fun disc!

The Makani is super fun! In my opinion it should be a staple in everybody's "Frisbee" life. Not exactly in your bag, but for warming up and throwing around. Innova killed it on this one, it is by far my favorite Throw and Catch / Superclass disc. I think it feels similar, but better than the Zephyr. The DX blend is gummier.

I've tried several long putts with it, and it does home in on target very well, but in the end it would never replace my traditional putter. But, in a superclass tournament it would be my go to. Now, it doesn't bomb like an Ultrastar, but it does throw far enough to have an awesome throw/catch game. It's perfect for warming up your arm before a round, or for a fun day at the beach. This disc is about the same size as a Zephyr- smaller than an ultrastar, but too big to fit into most disc golf bags, so keep that in mind.

Whenever I go out with the family, I bring my Makani. They also make it in glow plastic which is really fun at night.
