-reviewing in star plastic- this is one of my favorite understable mid ranges. It's nice and comfortable in the hand. No sharp edges and the thumbtrack definitely helps with grip. It turns very easily, but can still be hyzer flipped to fly straight. It also has moderate glide and doesn't float way up into the air easily. Like a flippy roc, but brand new. Loving it in star plastic

Wolf was my first disc- wife picked out a Shark, in a big box store knowing nothing about disc golf! Couldn't figure out why hers flew straight while mine....  flew sideways LOL.  The wolf is indeed an understable disc! But even getting beat in it doesn't turn "that much more". Great for scrambling, you can get some great turning shots, can throw high floaty 'straight' shots, or get a funky "opposite forehand" movement (RH FH turning left). I'll always have one in my bag!

This is a great beginner disc, I was able to borrow it from my friend when I first started the sport.  For someone that doesn’t quite have the right form nor the arm speed aka beginners you’ll be getting a straight to slight turn.  Once you get form down and arm speed up, it turns into hyzer-flip teaching disc.

Friend: "I'm at the disc golf shop; do you want anything?"

    Me: "An understable midrange."

And now I have a 170g DX Wolf. Many disc golfers I know would be upset at this turn of events, but honestly, I love this disc. It is very understable and that can be a problem; if I put any amount of torque on this thing, it turns right into the ground. But it does have value. I only use the Wolf for shots 200 feet and under when I need a disc to reliably turn and stay turned. If I had anything resembling finesse with my forehand, I probably wouldn't need it, but as it stands, this thing gets me out of a lot of jams. I throw it very slow and soft which is great for shots in the woods that I want to keep my eyes on for the whole throw. The grooved flat top combined with the shallow rim and DX plastic make for a great feel. If you don't love the depth of putters for short anhyzer shots, this disc can solve that problem. If you want to learn how to throw a roller, this disc can help. Also, I imagine that if you are a beginner, the wolf is an excellent midrange. Honestly, if Innova made this in other plastics, I would buy them.

I got a Wolf when I first started playing because I was told it would help beginners get more distance. I now keep one in my bag for weird scramble shots because my forehand game still needs a lot of work. This disc saves me when I make errant shots. It is crazy understable.

Why isn't this disc in better plastics?
I have had this disc in my bag for fifteen years.  No it's not your typical disc but it's like a Swiss Army knife in certain situations.
new player? Get this.  The under-stable rating means you get a little help with slower arm speeds and it's great for tunnel shots. If you have no idea how to putt this gives you a little extra glide.
advanced players- got a dog leg right on your local course...use this.  Rollers? Yep.  And it's great on a high anny that you don't want to roll at the end.

I have no idea why this gets so much hate.  People talk about higher arm speeds.  If you have that, why are you ripping on a 4 speed disc? Go easy on an 6 and your arm will thank you when you're over 40.

This is a pretty good disc for beginners or someone who doesn't have a big arm.  It also makes a great disc for someone learning how to refine throwing technique because of the solid feedback it provides.  It flies very straight when thrown at slow speeds.  It will also flip up on a hyzer angle and glide for quite a ways.  I found it to be a pretty good roller disc right out of the box.  Finally, you can see how adding a little power can easily get this disc to turn over.  Since you can only get this disc in DX plastic, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with a bigger arm.  It will wear down way too quickly if you really beat on this one.

I've had this disc forever. I'll say that it's best thrown at about 70%, and it will go wherever you put it. If you put it on hyzer, it will probably go pretty straight. If you give it no hyzer, it will fly steady and straight, but if you give it any anhyzer, it will fly hard that way, and you will miss by a lot. I've never experienced the extreme understability described, but expect it on an anhyzer. For the most part though, it's good in the wind and reliable.

This disc is by far the most understable disc in my bag. I got a max weight disc at 180G. This disc flies pretty straight for new arms like myself. I like to use this disc when OB or water is in play to the left and I don't want to risk throwing a putter. I use this more as a utility disc than anything else. I rarely throw it on open shots. It's comfortable in the hand and super forgiving. This thing does not like to glide much, especially at max weight, It will drop like a stone out of your hand once you release it. If you're new and struggle with your midranges hyzering/fading out or you're looking for an understable utility disc Give the Wolf a try,

I never used a Wolf until I had some experience under my belt, but I find it hard to control. Depending on the release angle, I can throw it dead straight, keep it on a nice little hyzer line, or have it flip up and hold the turn. The problem is, if your release angle isn't perfect, at least for me, I don't get the desired flight path. The Wolf has a lot of potential, even for intermediate players, but I find it to be somewhat inconsistent. I let my younger brother try it out when he was first starting, and he had a heck of a time throwing it straight. It kept the line he threw it on, which was usually a hyzer, and it never flipped up. Overall, I don't think the Wolf is as understable as the flight numbers indicated, but it is as inconsistent as most understable discs are.

Bought for my wife, is a great starter disc. With it being very understable and being a midrange it works well for low power and having no fade helps keep the disc floating. With the medium speed rating, it helps avoid wobble from low spin as well.

For those who have power, this disc will be an instant roller. It worked well for me on throwing hyzer with low power. The disc would flip up and glide with no fade at the end.

The advantage for beginners but disadvantage to experienced players is it is only in DX plastic. Since it beats in quickly with every shot, it becomes more understable. Great for beginners to get more distance and glide, bad for experienced players who already power down to get a roller.

FYI for experienced players-this is a good disc to practice with, you can work on generating spin separate from power

This might be one of the least liked discs I have thrown from Innova. It turns at medium to high speed but due to it's design it is also low glide which causes a more erratic flight. I think for beginners or players with less power this could work out great as I see many people love it. I remember it being comfy grip wise so that's a plus. It is also very straight at slower speeds.

I started carrying a Wolf in my bag a long time ago. All of them I've used have been max weight.  It was the first disc I ever threw that I could get to go straight and stay straight in the woods.  Every beginner needs a disc like this to help develop straight shots off the tee.

It fits nicely in the hand and I really like the flat top.  If it's warm enough outside the DX plastic is nice and grippy and usually holds up pretty well because you're not going to be putting a lot of speed on this disc.  The reality is though, if you're fairly experienced you're probably only going to be throwing this disc through tight gaps and you're probably going to hit trees with it more often than other discs.

Because it's a large-diamater disc, I think it glides a little more than the 3 it's rated as.  I can basically make a "frisbee throw" with this disc and watch it glide and just hold the line.  If you give it 100-150 feet of power it will just flip to flat and hold straight.  150-200 feet and it will turn gently through the flight.  If you try to throw it further than 200ish feet without a steep hyzer it will turn into a roller.  You can play with the hyzer angle, height, and power to get some straight lines in certain scenarios that you otherwise couldn't. Throwing this thing nose up makes it go really straight.

One reason why I really like the Wolf over other similar understable discs is because it just feels a lot more forgiving to me.  Putters and understable mids tend to punish you more than the Wolf does if you miss your angle or line just a little.  The other disc I would consider using to get a line like a Wolf is a Comet, but I feel like I have to use a lot more finesse with a Comet.

Overall it's a disc I think I'll always have in my bag.  If you're a beginner, you've got to give it a try.  If you're more experienced, you probably already have a disc like this in your bag that you trust, but this one might be worth checking out.

I bought this disc more as a joke because it is a very beginner friendly disc and I typically throw very overstable. However, I bought the 180g version and was surprised at the stability. I don't dare throw it hard with my arm speed but on a nice touchy slight hyzer shot, the disc will begin to flip, hold it's line and ride relatively flat. I also threw it on a "patent-pending" backhand anyhyzer and it was like throwing a forehand spike hyzer. Very good for those specific, in the woods, "get out of trouble" shot. I would recommend this disc in 180g if you need a "beat in" understable midrange/putter.

I have purchased several Wolf discs for friends that are just beginning to pick up disc golf. For newer players this disc will give them straight lines, a shot lacking in most newbie's game. I recently threw my brother in laws Wolf and was surprised at how easy I could shape lines with this disc. When thrown with 50-60% power I could get this disc to navigate some very tight lines. At higher power and with some height this was an effortless turnover "get out of trouble" disc. I picked up a max weight 180g and threw it today, I know people like to hate but it's making my bag.

In the beginning... when all the discs dumped hyzer, I found the Wolf. I transitioned from Ultimate and the Wolf threw dead straight for a beginners arm. The wolf glides like crazy but don't expect to throw this disc anywhere past 200'. Once you have more control of the disc and your power I would absolutely never power grip the wolf, it will turn over. In fan grip, it flies true to the numbers, it'll hold hyzer slowly at low power and fight out of a high anny (supplementing a lacking forehand).

Unless you are brand new, or already throw the Wolf, I would avoid this disc. It has a different feeling to other midranges with the thumbtrack. It is also super understable. Anyone with average power is going to have trouble getting consistency from this disc.

This Disc gets a lot of grief... but I love it!!  It is perfect for a beginner, or someone who has a slow arm and throws with some hyzer.  Flips up to flat and drifts right soon as it leaves your hand.  It is a specialty disc, and fantastic for rollers and tight spots.  I would recommend it to anyone looking for a strong turning disc.  I recently bought mine and for the low price its a no brainer for anyone who needs that one disc to get outta the woods or rolling out of a bad spot.  Try it out and see if it will howl for you too!

Perfect "pitching wedge" type disc.  It is one of a kind in the sense that it is highly understable but does not glide.  You may be puzzled as to what you could use this combo for but here are some angles that I throw it on:

spike hyzer:  Most discs on a spike hyzer will not flip up at all, but this one will flip just enough to ride for a bit before diving.  Also the non-glide will help you with elevation control on a spike, if you want to go over a tree but you don't want to throw it into the heavens.  This is a really nice angle to simply "go over a tree"

hyzer-flip:  This is a nice little hyzer-flip approach down a tunnel if you are afraid to "fly the coop", and you need to use strict elevation control to keep from hitting branches.  Just throw it on a hyzer angle about 75% power - it will flip up to flat and cruise about 150-225 and settle.  Will not float too high and miss your elevation, will not glide forever and past the basket.

flat:  This disc thrown hard and flat will give you a cut roll.  Not super useful, but there are some times when a cut roll can be worthwhile.

anny:  I would not throw this anny because it doesn't have enough glide to float very long, and if you throw it hard it'll come out like a dead duck.

Ok, this disc is what it is. This is a beginners disc and a niche one at that. For me, I've owned several. If it wasn't in 180 max weight, this disc did nothing for me. As for my 180 max weights that I've owned, this was the first disc that I ever got to flip up flat about one month into me picking up the game. I used it a lot my first year. I really enjoy the track along the flight plate. It was great for learning form and finger placement on the discs and really taught me the importance of spin on the disc. There was a time and place when I was new to the game where this was my 150 foot straight shooter and I was deadly accurate with this thing. Now, as I've gained more experience I no longer carry these guys, but they will forever hold a place in my heart for helping my form.

I LOVE my Wolves! My first Wolf was in my beginner pack I bought on Amazon the minute I got back from my first round with a friend. I keep one in my bag for super straight low power shots and for when I need a huge sweeping anhyzer midrange shot.  I still classify myself as a beginner after a year and a half, but this disc helps with my form and it's just plain easy to throw.  It is my favorite disc because of how it feels in my hands.  If I can make the shot with a Wolf, that's what I reach for first!

I found this disc on my local course with no contact info and it went unclaimed at the pro-shop, so I got to hang on to it.  I loved this disc and it held a firm place in my bag for a long time.  This disc is suuuuuper understable, but as someone who rarely throws a mid with 100% power, this disc could carry a long way on an extreme hyzer-flex line.  This was often  my go to "get out of jail" mid as well.  For being so understable, I found this disc to be very versatile on the course!

I bag a wolf for one thing and one thing only: anhyzer lay up shots. I would not use it for anything else, nor would I recommend it for anything else. If you got a tree in your face and no line on your right, straddle out to the left and get a good 30 degree angle anny about 5 feet in the air. It'll sail all the way to the basket and be parked. Anything within 40-80 ft that you need a good anny toss on, this thing is unbeatable.

If you're looking for a stable midrange, or a putter, or a weak arm driver, look elsewhere, this is not that disc.

Edit: 3 years in now, much more experienced. The Wolf is a weird combination of turn and low glide. I think it's the thumbtrac. This is a good beginner friendly disc, but you can get better shots with other putters and midranges than you can with a wolf.

This is a really really easy disc to throw when you're starting out. Mine also beat in quickly and I can't put more than 50% power into it anymore without it turning and burning. I use this as a long distance putter now because it will fly straight with nearly no effort, however you have to watch it because it will glide out on you.

This disc was a surprise to me when throwing it. This disc was given to me as a joke because some friends needed a leg up in the competition. The goal was to get me the most understable stuff they could in order for me to have a hard time throwing it. I must admid this disc was not nearly as understable as I thought it would be. Yes, when thrown flat the disc will sail to the right and has a hard tim coming back at all. But if I had any kind of hyzer to it when trying to get a hyzer flip I found that it was actually hard to get it to stand up to flat.

While all that is true, I think this disc is great for beginners. It will definiely help them get some straighter approach shots and find themselves close to the basket without having to try to aim somewhere other than at the basket. I think that is one of the most confusing parts of being a beginner, trying to get it to go straight and end up where I was pointing, and this is the disc to help that I believe.

The Wolf is nice for those longer approaches that need to go right but don't have as much vertical room as you need to throw a big anhyzer.  Give it that vertical room and it tends to be a long gliding anny. Very easy to throw for beginners and fun to work with as you get better.  Don't let the other reviews deter you from this disc if you need a right turner that will glide out.
