Never left a review for a disc but had to for this one, by far my favorite distance driver. I was previously throwing 260-300ft on drives and have tried so many distance drivers of all speeds and flight ratings. I bought this in the fall in plasma and was instantly throwing 280-350, the grip feels perfect and the flight is exactly -2 2 for me in that distance range. I eventually lost my plasma which was then out of stock so I tried neutron and I liked it even more! On a bad/slower throw with my plasma it would go 280 and fly 0/2, my neutron even on a bad throw still gets to 300 typically and always has a little anhyzer so a little more forgiving then the plasma in my experience. Love it, most consistent driver I have and easily has a 20-50ft upside compared to other drivers for me.

Right now this is my go to driver. I typically throw 200'-250', before I got this disc. Now I'm more 250-300' and I love it. Not too mention the disc skips like crazy. 10-20' in skip alone

I usually don't like discs faster than speed 11 but I love the catalyst. It is similar to a wave but not as much turn or fade and it glides for days making it a bomber.

As someone who doesn't have a total bomber arm I find this disc to be the most distance I can get consistently. I think that if you have been playing for a while and have hit a plateau this is the disc for you. This is a disc that can hyzer flip for advanced players with lower arm speeds but at the same time with a little extra power you can get a full flex flight out of it.

So this disc is being thrown at 5000ft and it is incredibly understable. This disc is coming out of hyzer release on 90% power and turning over instantly. Any wind at all and my 175g Proton Catalyst is spiked right on RHBH.

The reason I give this disc 4 stars is because in no wind, thrown correctly, it does exactly what I need it to do, which is turn over and hold. Slight hyzer, flips over, and just rides right for 350'

For reference, I throw the Relativity, Tantrum, and Trace for my distance drivers. I can hit 400ft consistently with all 3 discs. My arm speed is right around 13-14.

The only problem I have with the Catalyst is that it feels more like a 12 speed disc, but if thrown at less power it doesn't get up to speed to do it's thing. It is incredibly finicky for me now that it is properly broken in. I can see this disc being useful for all skill levels after some field practice to dial in the throws.

Note to the flight numbers... One could look at this disc's numbers and think, A glidey Shryke, or faster Beast. Stop right there... Personally I find this disc MUCH more understable but more comparable to something like the daedalus.

This disc being a 13 speed implies that you need to get it up to speed in order to do what it's supposed to in the air. I would say that anything more than 60% of my power, turns the disc to the ground for a cut roller. Which is a reason I say that this would be somewhat beginner friendly. Since many of us when we first start want to get the "Faster, Beefier" discs, this would be a good starter 13 speed. On that similar note, I personally don't know who I could recommend this disc to unless you had a good roller game.

Please note, I don't have a great roller game, this disc I can see being a solid "out of the box" understable roller. So my review may change later.

This disc is a bomber! When I got this i expected it to be a little bit more difficult to throw just because of the 13 speed. It doesn't need a huge arm to get out there, it is a domey disc and that took a bit of getting used to as far as thumb placement but put a bit of anny on it with a snap and it will fly. Great distance driver to have.

I'm a big fan of hyzer flips and this disc is perfect right out of the box. I came across the catalyst as I heard it was like a longer wave. This thing absolutely bombs! Good tailwind driver ripped flat. Slight hyzer for flips. On an anny line, the catalyst is a thing of beauty. Mine is max weight and has significant dome to it for an mvp disc. The denser black rim allows for a higher speed disc without having a super thick rim. Immediately went into my bag as a max distance backhand driver and is more accurate than anything else I have in that slot. Great job MVP!

    Not Quite an Understable Driver

I don't consider myself to have 13-speed arm strength most of the time, so perhaps that is why I was not in love with this disc. But I have thrown the captain (by dynamic) as well and find that disc to be much more understable than the catalyst.

My issue with the disc is that it doesn't have enough turn. The catalyst will flip to flat almost every time. Sure it holds that flight for quite a long time, but I think an true understable driver should have turn as well. If you are looking for a distance driver, this disc is a great option. But I wouldn't chose it for an understable driver.

I've bought this disc twice now, and each time I was impressed by how easy it is to absolutely bomb it. Back when I first started playing, this was the first disc I managed to throw 300 feet. For players with lower arm-speed, it'll give you a good, controllable s-curve. Last week when I re-bought it, I threw it about 415 feet--a new best. With a little hyzer on it, it just keeps going as it flips up. It has an unreal amount of glide. One bit of caution, once it takes a beating, it'll turnover on you pretty easily if you're really putting a big throw into it (which is how I lost my first one). I disagree with the flight ratings--I get a lot of turn out of mine. Some of that could be user error, but I'd argue that the flight pattern is closer to a katana with a little less fade. All in all, it's a fun, useful disc for wide open holes. I wouldn't throw it on a technical course though.

The MVP Catalyst is an outstanding disc! This is a disc that I currently bag and don't see it ever leaving my bag. This disc is great for long distances. It is fairly understable but not stupid understable. It's a high speed driver so you definitely need to be able to get some torque behind it to get it to do what you want it to do. I use the Catalyst for long open shots as well as tight wooded shots. It is great to put some hyzer on and let it flip up and ride straight for a long distance. Throwing it flat it's going to turn over but evently finish pretty straight of the line you release it on. Top notch disc from MVP!

The Catalyst is a true bomber. This disc can be smashed as far as anything on the market. I found it to be in the realm of the Ballista, Sheriff, and Shryke for pure distance and stability. The -2 (turn) 2 (fade) combo produces some ridiculously long S curves with a lot of side to side movement. I was able to pop the Catalyst out to 450' repeatedly.

The Catalyst can be finicky. If you rip too hard on a flat line the disc will turn and burn. A hyzer flip shot is necessary to really get max distance out of the Catalyst at high speeds. Also not a headwind disc. Even a slight breeze in your face can send the Catalyst careening right. This is more of a calm or downwind driver.

The Catalyst isn't super hard to throw, and intermediate players will probably be able to handle it just fine. It isn't quite as overstable as the Octane. I found the Catalyst longer than the Mayhem too.

Top marks. This disc is a winner and will fly as long as any driver on the market. Very similar to a Shryke.

This is the first disc that got me into deep trouble. I started playing with putters and midranges and mis releases/bad lines were inconvenient. With this disc a badly thrown shot went across rivers and roads. I found OB I formerly didn't know existed. Accuracy suddenly became far more important when I had a disc that I could throw more than 300 feet.

Unlike some other drivers I've used, you can power down this disc and it holds its line where others dump left fast. (RHBH) I haven't been playing long, but I would say that this a great driver for beginners, particularly those that have a natural hyzer release.

This disc has been a godsend for me for big distance. I don't have the biggest arm but the understability of this disc helps me to throw long and relatively straight. As my game improves i have found myself accidentally over powering this disc at times (especially when there is lots of wind). Which leads me to believe that if i start gaining power and armspeed i will eventually outgrow this disc. I also bag one in the proton plastic which is a little more glidey and is more susceptible to wind. All and all it was exactly what i needed to help me start consistently getting drives in that 350' range and will remain in my bag until my arm gets too big for it or until i lose it.

My preferred distance driver in my bag right now. As with a number of other reviews here, this is the disc that helped me break the 300 range into 350 when I was newer, and is still a super great disc now that I'm a bit more experienced.  As a speed 13, you do need a decent amount of power to get the full flight out of this disc, but it does seem easier to get straight compared to other high speed drivers. Works especially great when you can get it to turn over a bit. I also love the neutron plastic and rubbery edge, for some reason it helps me keep the nose down.

Man, this disc flies really far. The Catalyst is another one of the ever-popular understable distance drivers designed to let even noodle arms bomb, and it's one of the better ones on the market in my opinion. The 23mm rim is a bit easier to work with than the max width (25mm) rims on a lot of similar competing discs. The plastic choices are all great too, since this is MVP we're talking about. I have a Neutron Catalyst, but if I was to buy another one I would probably go with Plasma for the hand feel. The disc also looks awesome, so you can't go wrong there.

As for the flight, well, it turns. That's what it's supposed to do. It's definitely an understable disc, though it doesn't reach the same levels of absurd flippiness as the Katana and the Daedalus. I find it to be more comparable to the Shryke, and I'd say that's a pretty good middle ground of stability for an easy distance disc. It's flippy enough that even a guy who struggles to hit 300' can get it to flip up and ride for a little while, but it's not so flippy that a guy tossing Destroyers out to 400' would find it to be completely useless. That makes this a disc that can be used to decent effect by a very large portion of the disc golf community. I still wouldn't recommend it to an absolute beginner, but if you've been playing for a year or two then it's not a bad disc to choose for your first foray into the 13 speed category.

As a sidenote, I actually really like to forehand this disc. I don't know what it is about the disc, but I just seem to get clean releases with this disc, so even though it is understable I don't see it turn over on me when I give it a good flick. So yeah, good disc. Definitely my favorite 13 speed disc.

It's somewhere between my Inertia and Relativity.  The Catalyst is an odd gap disc with a lot of movement.  It turns hard but it fades hard too.  I'd say the fade is a 2.  The dome on mine is quite massive, like an octane.  Feels pretty comfortable in the hand and can carry in the wind a good bit.  It seems a little unpredictable though, and I would never throw it in a tunnel or otherwise tight spot.  Solid disc if you can handle the wide rim and bulky dome.

If I was a big-time professional player and I got to put my signature on any one disc, it would be this one. Of all the discs I've purchased since I began playing, this has offered me the most momentous change in distance capacity (This was my first disc that allowed me to break 350'). This is an EXCELLENT first high speed driver for beginners, especially if you're having trouble with more common stable/overstable drivers like a Defender or Destroyer.

    Currently I bag 3 Catalysts...

My first Neutron 168g I got very light because I was afraid I wouldn't have the arm speed. In the past few months, it has beat in very nicely and now throws sort of like 13/5/-3/1. I can throw the disc on a near-vertical hyzer (seriously about 60-70 degrees) and it will flip up flat and carry for days. Alternatively, with less power and just a little hyzer it will make a nice S-curve. If I really rip this disc with 80% power on a flat line, it will turn over into the grass though.

My second Neutron Catalyst I bought in 172g when I felt that I'd "graduated" from the lighter disc. I will get some nice hyzer flips out of this as well, but not quite the same as the lighter one obviously. It has a little more reliable S-curvy-ness to it; if I rip it at 80% on a flat line it will turn considerably but not all the way over.

The third is a like-new plasma 175g catalyst. It will give me a little turn to maximize my distance but not nearly enough to carry so wide that I miss my target. I also feel that the plasma plastic allows a little more dome to the disc's profile, allowing it to sail and sail and sail. The three discs together make for an excellent distance trifecta.

Don't be afraid of the 13 speed rating if you're new to high speed drivers. Newer players will throw the disc like a stable driver and the gyro technology will minimize fade. As you learn to improve your form you will start to see more and more turn, which is what is so great about the catalyst; it really teaches you how to throw properly because it shows you in the amount of turn.

This is an amazing disc.  On an average day I can throw most distance drivers about 325' to 350'.  This disc is just perfect form my arm, and I can get it to 375' and maybe a bit more.  It goes much farther than any other disc I've thrown, including a Star Destroyer, Sheriff, Wraith, Katana, and even lightweight discs like the Fission Photon.

It has a nice long, gentle turn, but it always fades left and the end of its flight.  I didn't expect to like this disc as much as I do, but it is currently my favorite distance driver.

This is a great disc that bombs. I played one round so far with it and can already tell it's a keeper. It does have some decent turn out of the gate and has a very late, gentle fade. The rim is fairly wide, so small hands may have issues with it. I also noticed some flashing on the outer rim that made it very sharp, so I will probably try to grind that out on a teepad. Very workable disc that has incredible potential.

The rim is wide and sharp.  This is a tale of two discs:

When I throw is at 75% power it was fast and gave me a slight turn, long glide and reliable fade (13,6,-1-,2).  Very glidy.  Just not the distance I can get from other discs with the printed flight plate numbers.

When I throw it at 90% it got really understable and although it didin't quite cut roll it still bailed right to the ground without the distance I usually get.  (13,6,-3,1).

I think this disc would really fit that 300 ft power person well, and could be that long disc you were looking for.

I have a fairly big arm but I'm coming from an ultimate background (instinct is to Hyzer release everything) and I play at altitude, so I tend towards understable stuff.  This disc immediately jumped to the head of the class and became my go-to distance driver when I got it.  The forward-finishing fade is a wonder, adding what feels like free distance to your drive.

I throw a pretty mixed bag; my go-to driver had been an Innova Champion Daedalus.  Interestingly, and contrary to the flight ratings, I find the Catalyst to be more understable than the Daedalus.  A lot of this is just that the Catalyst has a less pronounced fade, but I also get a little more high-speed turn (or, maybe, the Daedalus just pulls out of the high speed turn more quickly).  I could just have a relatively overstable Daedalus I guess.  Either way, the Catalyst is still way, way more stable than the Vibram Unlace, which pretty much never comes back once it flips.

EDIT: as I've increased my release velocity of late, I find that this disc is a bit too understable for me to use most of the time.  At this point I use it mostly for shots where I'm looking for significant high speed turn.  It always comes back for me a bit if it has the space to work with.

If you are looking for a max D wide open Bomber this is the disc. Comes screaming out of its high speed turn for a long slow fade for huge distance. I would compare it to the Ballista. With the Ballista you had to break it in a bit to get the same flight, this one does it out of the box.

For those times when the Wave just cant quite get there, MVP gives you the Catalyst.  If you bag a Wave and have something else in your bag for when the wind picks up a bit, you should have a Catalyst.  If you like a Wave but it is just a hair to unreliable, this is your disc.  It flies long and true with a little turn for an intermediate arm, and finishes with a light fade and little to no skip.  Great for those looong placement shots

Of all the new high-speed MVP discs (usually rated as "speed 13"), the Catalyst is my favorite so far.  I was able to get a lot of distance with this disc and it didn't seem to fade prematurely like a lot of the others MVP drivers I've tried. I felt like I could really rip this thing. It does have an understable pull upon release, but it doesn't completely flip over, but comes back nicely to result in a straight, spot-on landing. I would compare it to a Westside King or perhaps even a DDX with less fade. It's a great distance driver that I'll happily recommend to MVP fans as well as players who do not traditionally throw the MVP brand. Five stars!

This disc has a thicker rim if you're use to throwing MVP.  It has really nice glide, I throw this further than my Waves fairly consistently.  For me I throw this 400 ish, I don't tend to turn discs over much and for me this has a very little turn then comes back with a slow fade.  Thrown with some hyzer it will hold the angle nicely with similar flight to what a volt does but much faster.  You can get it to skip if thrown right. It has a domey top which is different than most MVP discs, I believe this is why it tends to glide more.

This is probably the first MVP disc that I have given a 5 star rating to. The Neutron Catalyst is awesome! For one, it is the first overmold disc that doesn't feel like garbage in my hand. I am not sure what it is, but the crease in the mold must fall in a different part of my hand because almost all other MVP/Axiom discs feel bad in my hand.

The flight reminds me of a Boss or Destroyer. I first tried it in a left to right headwind, and of the 25 discs I tested it went farthest! It was the only disc that out-drove my Destroyer all day. Of the discs I tested, it most closely resembled the Quasar I was throwing with a little less stability. I gave the Catalyst a 3 fade, more than the 2 that it is rated mostly because I was testing in very windy conditions. Some discs didn't do so well, but the Catalyst performed well in all the wind types I tried.

I will update this review when I test out this disc forehand since I didn't try it out. Overall I really enjoy the Catalyst, and I hope MVP comes out with more comfortable feeling drivers like this one

I'm not sure how helpful my review will be because I am fairly new to the sport. I've been playing for two months now. Took this disc out to the local course here and it allowed me to birdie a few holes that I struggle to par. Keep in mind I shoot from the concrete tees which are farther away then the blue tees but closer than the gold tees.Mine is 177 grams, I was able to pr with this disc which was just beyond 300ft. Throwing a hyzer, it stayed straight for the majority of it's flight with decent fade at the end for me but not as much fade as the wraith gives me. When I threw a slight anhyzer, the flight numbers showed true and gave me a beautiful S that I love looking at. My go to driver before this was the orc. I'm going to go ahead and get this disc in a lighter weight. For my game style, this disc has found it's way in my bag. I started off with a 136 gram tesla which is a disc I suggest for all beginners. I grabbed this disc as a way to challenge myself to act as a progression gauge and it turned out to be my favorite. Definitely recommend it for noobs looking to gain more distance. Take into consideration that disc golf has become an addiction to me and I purchased a basket for the backyard and I go to the course almost everyday to continue to improve. I play to have fun, but I play to compete and win. I placed 5th in the local trilogy challenge in novice of 15 and everyone there had been playing for 2-3 years.

This disc is pretty awesome. It feels great in the hand, the rim doesn't feel massive like other discs the same speed. The plastic is neutron so it is pretty durable, the weight I was throwing was a 173 gram. Overall a great feeling disc!

For me the flight pattern of this disc is a good helix flight path. When I first threw it, the disc had a pretty good anhyzer line, but it came out of it then flattened out and then faded off, in the end it went about 370-380 feet. With more experimentation and trying to flip the disc I found that this disc is understable enough to get some good anhyzer lines, but stable enough to come out an accidental anhyzer line. I would imagine that as the disc gets broken in it'll get more understable, but I think that it will still be stable enough to get some good distance throws without it being to flippy and unpredictable.

At the end of the day I say this disc is great and I look forward to seeing how it ages. I think that a beginner can get good distance with this disc with its understability. Also an advanced player can get distance and take advantage of its stability and shape specific flight patterns.

I normally don't throw a lot of over-mold discs/brands, but I have to say, I really like the flight and feel of the Neutron Catalyst. It feels great in the hand, and feels like a 12-13 speed disc, judging it purely on rim size (it is about the biggest size I like to fan grip, which this felt great for).

I was throwing a new 173g Catalyst and it was mostly strait. It can hold any line you put it on, it is a great neutral disc. Releasing flat, it would turn over for me a little bit, but then flatten out and go dead strait for some pretty great distances. It held hyzers and anyhzers very well.

I bet after the disc breaks in a little bit, the -2 turn would come out a little bit more, I was also throwing it at about 4,500 feet elevation. Because of how neutral of a disc it is, it was also working really well for sidearm throws. It would definitely stamd up a little more for me than backhanding, but had enough stability to come back out with some good distance. I could also see it being a good roller.

Overall I really liked the flight and feel of this disc. Any disc that can be shaped in multiple ways, and has a good neutral/strait flight, I am a fan of.
