The Prodigy Disc X5 is an understable, low-profile, high-speed distance driver. It is the kind of disc that lends itself well to players of all levels. Those with lower arm speed will get great distance with added glide. Players with moderate arm speed will be able to throw the X5 with a slight hyzer flip. For players with faster arm speed, the X5 will flip early in its flight path and will turn to the understable side with a soft finish for useful shot-shaping through wooded courses. It can also be used for long, consistent rollers.

For medium arms, this is a solid understable distance driver. I could get it to flip up from hyzer to flat every time. Depending on how much angle I put it on would determine if I got any turn out of it. The rim doesn't feel as wide as some other 12-13 speed discs I've held and I liked that about the X5. It did have this weird bump all along the rim which I think is just apart of the "X" series? This is the only one I've tried so far. I liked it, but it did seem fickle. Most high speed understable discs tend to have a varying degree of fickleness to them. The X5 was at least fairly consistent for my arm speed. I could routinely get it out to around 340-360ft on a hyzer flip line. Bigger arms will probably find it much more understable than I did. Not a bad first distance driver for someone just hitting that 300ft+ mark.

    Disc: Prodigy X5 400, 173g

Feel: This disc took me a bit of getting used to. I didn’t love the feel of it at first, but I’ve grown accustomed to it. The plastic is nice and durable, and the rim is pretty comfortable. One thing that I don’t like about some understable distance drivers is the rim. For some reason, they typically just don’t feel good in my hand, and I’m rarely confident with most of them. I felt the same towards the X5 at first, but now that I’ve kinda figured it out, I absolutely love the feel of it.

Flight: I don’t exactly have a huge arm yet, as I am still relatively new to the sport of disc golf. A decent drive for me is about 350-375. So an understable distance driver isn’t going to be as flippy or have as understable a flight as it would in the hands of a professional. So take what I say about the flight with a grain of salt. This disc tends to turn for the first 15% of its flight, and then go straight until the last 10%, when it fades back. All in all, when I throw it well, it flies roughly 360. I like this disc in tailwinds, but don’t love it for crosswinds.

Overall: This disc is solid. I’d say it’s a good disc for intermediate players with good arm speed, but not good for beginners. The only complaint I have with this disc is the fact that it isn’t the most predictable. I don’t feel too confident throwing this disc in a competitive round, I’d rather throw something else. I’m working on my rollers, and I have found that this disc is very good for that. I like this disc, the reason I don’t feel as though it deserves a 5-star rating from me is the few small things that could have been better.

I am a fan.  This disc is understable- down right flippy- if you can throw 400+.  I generally don't get that kind of D. This disc is, for me, a workable long disc. I am a fan of the X2-3-5 discs, and use them as my primary distance drivers. THe X5 is the one I throw the most. The X's are a bit domey most of the time, but I prefer the flat ones. I have owned several over the past few years.  These are, most importantly, the most comfortable high speed rims I have ever put in my hand. They are a joy to throw.

X5: It does turn, but comes back. Flat release, it will end up on the understable side. I have a light one and heavy one. They are a good combo for stable to understable shots. I don't have enough speed to turn and burn these. They have enough stability to hook up as they slow down.

The X2-3-5 all have the same rim with a bulge in different placement, so they feel the same in the hand and fly the same-ish.  X2 fades hard and early; X3 fades later; X5 fades late.  I am really impressed by the design here- 3 drivers that feel the same in the hand allows me to work similar technique across the spectrum of stability. I don't have to mind-meld with 3 different rims.

I have thrown this mold in 3 plastics. The 400, 400g and 750. I had the 750 for 6 months before throwing into Lake Marshall (awesome course!), and it had yet to really break in to flipping. My favorite plastic is the 750. It's stiff and strong. I have a few molds that are years old that fly the same, and 3 years later have a bit more grip and flex.

Wise. Love this disc if I just want to get sheer distance out of a drive when I don't have to deal with wind. It will turn slowly out of the hand and then have enough stability to fabe back at the end.

I started playing 3 or 4 months ago and was really excited when I got this disc.  However, being the novice that I am, I cannot seem to get it to throw the correct flight path.  I haven't thrown it too much, but my arm speed and technique both need to improve if I am going to bag this one.  The plastic is gorgeous however, and I do like the little bump in themiddle of the rim.

I got a chance to test this disc out in the field for a little while and thought I'd give my impressions. I love the 400s plastic in the hand, it is a grippier, more flexible champion plastic and gives me great grip confidence when I throw. The rim is shallower than the D Series, which is common theme in the X series it seems and has a very interesting ridge in the middle, but it didn't affect my throw. The X5 is definitely an understable driver that could be used for max distance for beginners or touch hyzer flips for stronger arms. I can usually get about 400' max distance, and when I went full power on a 30 degree hyzer release it would flip up and fly to the right pretty consistently. If you are looking for a disc that will finish to the right, this is the one. For me this is too understable to be my maximum distance driver, but because my flick is weak I will definitely be using this for holding an anny line through the woods. It is a fun disc to try out.

First of all, I really loved the X4 which seemed to have the perfect balance of understability with fade, at least for me as an older player that throws with moderate power. The X5 wasn't quite as predictable for me as was the X4. The X5 is more understable, for sure, but I had a more difficult time controlling its flight. I had the most success when throwing it hard on a slight anhyzer angle (throwing RHBH with the outer edge tilted slightly upward). When thrown on an anhyzer, the X5 pulled to the right and kept going with very little fade. This makes it a great distance bomber for a right turn, in my case. When thrown with a more flat release, I got mixed results, sometimes with more of an S-curve, but other times just straight with a fade. I admit that I probably wasn't throwing with consistent power, but that flat release was the place where it felt less predictable.

I did throw hard on a sharp anhyzer to see if I could get a good backhand roller with the X5, and it was probably the best rolling disc I've tried, though I'm usually far too timid to try a roller in a competitive round.

Though the X5 could be used as an easier-to-throw distance driver, I still think it is a bit too fast for most novice players. They'd really have to have a knack for throwing before diving into a disc like the X5 with the hopes of getting more distance. Without the right speed on the release, it will fade earlier than hoped, so I'd recommend it more for intermediate to experienced players as an understable bomber.
