This thing is way beefier than advertised imo. Was expecting something reliably overstable and I got that and some. I've made some really cool shots with this but it's also almost too beefy. If you really are looking for the typical "meathook," this is can be your cheap option. Love the plastic for the price

Might be the funniest disc I own simply because of its absolute beef. No matter what you throw this thing on it will fade like it's a elevator with the wire cut. Straight, left, down. Despite the beef it somehow became one of the most reliable utility discs in my bag. It is absolutely perfect for scrambling. When throwing from the rough, it gets you about 250ft closer to the basket and smack dab in the middle of the fairway. Holes that are short and far to either side off the tee are also match the Flare perfectly. The neutron plastic, also is some off the best feeling "cheaper" premium plastic that I've felt in a while. Overall, this disc will probably never leave my bag and it was a great introduction to streamline discs as a whole for me. Just know what you're getting into with the overstability.

Not a bad disc per se but definitely situational and DEFINITELY a meat hook. I was looking for something similar to a Firebird but I think this is even more overstable. I have about average arm speed and this thing just dives right on a forehand. If I put it on a slight anhyzer it fights right out of it. Out in the woods with dog-legs and scrambles from the rough I pull it out a few times per round. On an open park course I would probably leave it in the car.

When I first purchased this I was looking for an overstable control driver.  Instead at least for me it throws as a super overstable mid.  I could definately get WAY more distance from a Buzz than from this.  But as a utility disc it's found a permenant slot in my bag.  I basically can't throw this with too much anhyzer.  If I throw it on a roller line it gives me a big fat s-curve.  Which for some woods holes and scramble shots is very useful.

Flat top and overstable. It almost wants to start fading out of your hand. I think the Nuetron plastic is one of my favorite driving plastics. If you need to cut a 90 around 250'-300' out, this will do it with ease.

Fantastic FH disc that's surprisingly more OS than a firebird. I bag a 173g Cosmic Neutron along with firebirds bc it'll flex and fade harder. I tend to get better skips with this disc too. It shrugs off heavy headwinds and the neutron plastic is firm yet grippy. Love it.

This is a firebird with a touch more glide and I'm here for it. Great utility disc and for throws into a headwind. Feels good in the hand both forehand and backhand.

Disc - 174 Neutron SL Flare

Feel - The Flare is similar to a FAF firebird feel in the hand with a very high nose and sharp feel. It fits nicely in the hand for backhand and forehand shots.

Flight - The Flare is one of the most overstable discs I have thrown. It fades very aggresively and quickly. It is a great option for overhand shots, chop forehands, grenades, skip shots, and many more trick type of shots. If you are tired of paying lots of extra money or searching everywhere for FAF firebirds or LucidX felons, the flare could be the disc for you. I really enjoy this disc as it is a great overstable flyer.

Overall - Extremely overstable control driver that is much easier to replace other options in the slot.

    Neutron SL Flare (174g)

In most instances, the Flare is way too much disc for me. Compared to my friend's brand new fuzion felon, the flare is easily the most stable. That said, the overstability can definitely come in handy and make for an awesome "utility" disc.

For me, that amounts to two different shots that I like to pull out if I'm in trouble. First of which are overhands. When throwing thumbers, it pans out nice and slowly. It's the only time where the disc looks graceful in flight for me. The other shot is simply throwing it low and hard and watching it get a massive skip to the left(RHBH). I've been working on some flex forehands shenanigans too but otherwise that's about it.

So while it might not be super versatile, it has definitely helped me out a couple times. And this might sound strange, but it's a lot of fun to throw. Thrown like any of my other discs, it will pretty much just goes vertical real quick lol.

    Profile
Mine is just about board flat minus a very very slight ridge where the rim meets the flight plate. The rim size and depth of this disc feel very comfortable to me. Any smaller and it would be awkward, but as it is it feels great for forehand and thumbers, but I can also get a good grip backhand too.

    Feel
It's decently firm and even a little slick, although I've noticed it get slightly grippier even though I've only barely started breaking it in. So far it seems durable and it holds up well to the desert landscape courses of Arizona. There are only 1 or 2 visible ticks, but I don't feel or notice them when holding the disc

At first I didn't know if I was going to keep this disc in the bag. It's every bit over stable as you might imagine from the other reviews. After half a year of using this disc I'll never take it out of the bag. Sidearm shots squirrel through trees and gaps like a rabid bat. I love how this disc will fight out of any anny shot, sidearm or back hand. With this disc you don't have to worry if it's going to fight back. It always fights back. I use the Flare on back hand shots when I need have some crazy skips or if I really want to spike it without trying too hard. This disc is fun for thumbers and overhand shots because it always is consistent. I like not being surprised by where my disc is going. This disc also feels great in my hand. I have a 168gm version which works great. I may get a max weight one at some point to slow down the fade a bit, but for now the lighter one is working out great. Highly recommend if you are looking for something that will take everything you can give it and fight out into a consistent end.

My favorite shot with this disc is a sidearm baseball throw straight down the gut with a lot of anny to get around something. I can count on it getting around the gap/tree/whatever and then coming back into the line. Just fantastic.

Now that I have owned 4 of these guys, I wanted to add a review of the regular Neutron plastic with a bit of a comment on it's lifecycle. The second and fourth Flare I have gotten are that plastic and it's basically the same feel as the Cosmic plastic, but instead of the big muliti color streaks and swirls it is a solid or single color swirl look. My most recent Flare is a grey one and it has a nice swirly look and the same great hand feel of the others.

As the Flare beats in the abrupt dumpy fade mellows out a bit and becomes more of a hook type fade that makes the disc skip a bit more IMO. It also increases the glide a bit, but I have thrashed one and it has not gotten any turn yet. My most beat one has been smashed on sharp rocks, and smashed a parking lot on a 500ft downhill throw and though it's got a few scuffs and dings it has lost a bit of the aggressive overstability but is still a great go to OS fairway.

Cannot reccomend enough if you like this type of disc.

Holy sweet mother of Mary, this sucker is an overstable behemoth.  Even discs like the mighty Flick pale in comparison to the outrageous turnapalooza that is the Flare.  Definitely not a distance driver, but it certainly holds it's own in the utility category.  The Flare excels at  spike hyzer lines, rapid anhyzer flex shots, and low ceiling skip shots between 200 and 300.  I haven't personally tried it, but I'd imagine it would be an excellent overhand disc for those with a big enough arm.  I would highly recommend this disc for an advanced level player looking for some serious fade

This is one of the most over-stable discs on the market. Immediately, out of the hand, it starts to knife down, vertically. I'm note sure if they intended for this level of stability, but if so, they've achieved it. I throw 440 average and can push Excites, Relativities, Pharaohs and Destroyers close to 480-500ft.

The Flair is STRICTLY a utility disc. If you are looking for that in your bag, this is the answer.

Now this disc is overstable! The second I threw it (backhand) it started turning out of my hand right away. This disc turned out to be awesome for spike hyzer placement shots, or low flat skip lines. I did enjoy the disc, but it's more of a utility disc for me, doesn't get thrown a whole ton just because it's too overstable for my common throws.

I would say this is a more overstable firebird, sort of like a Slab or something.

The single mold neutron plastic feels great, as does the cosmic version. Very grippy and just feels very premium. Overall, great disc, probably more of a utility disc for me.

Talk about beef.... The Flare is 100% grade A beef. This mold from streamline has a feel similar to that of a predator or a firebird but a bit more comfortable on the backhand side. The profile of the Flare is VERY flat with an aggressive wing, you can take one look at it and get a pretty good idea of what it is going to do. I have a couple of Flares but I found a nice flat one around 170g and it will be what im basing my review off of.

The Flare is most definitely geared towards utility and it excels in distance control. I found the disc backhand to be great for large skip shots or shots that need to make a lot of lateral movement. The Flare is very useful for flex shots and it will eat up a surprisingly large amount of angle both forehand and backhand. This disc is excellent for overhands and flick rollers as it will hold on to the line or pan slow for big distance. I think the rated numbers sell the fade short on this disc, it's a full "4 fade" to me as I've thrown it alongside other discs of said rating and this performs as beefy if not more...

The Flare excels in battling the wind as it will fight its way out of almost any situation I have thrown it in. As this disc is not really aimed towards distance I did not find much use for it in tailwinds but its extreme reliability has made it great to have on the windy days.

This disc is far too overstable to recommend to beginners there are better discs to start out with.

Overall the Flare really showcases just how overstable the guys over at MVP can manufacture I like that the disc is inexpensive and performs so well in addition to being reasonably replaceable. If you're in the market for that overstable utility disc this is definitely a must pick up.
