The Vibram unLace is the understable brother of the popular Lace. Like the Lace, this is a comfortable max distance driver with incredible glide. The unLace will provide extreme distance for less experienced players, and is described as the perfect first distance driver. The unLace has the same wing length as the traditional Lace and is slightly taller. Like all Vibram discs, the unLace will be available in highly durable X-Link rubber.

The UnLace is a bit of a finicky disc. Obviously its pretty understable, so you have to finesse it just so to maximize distance without flipping it. Its decently fast and glides well, but I still feel like it doesn't have the distance of other understable discs like the Nuke SS or Bolt. It has a little bit of a clunky flight and I never felt overly confident with it.

Overall, I feel like there are better fast understable options out there than the UnLace. Its an unremarkable disc. I much prefer the regular Lace. That disc you can rip the crap out of and it S curves for bombs.

Not a huge fan of the rubber material either. I feel like it picks up dirt and has a rough texture. Seems to warp in hot weather too.

I do not recommend this disc if you throw more than 300ft consistantly. Out of the box, it is amazing, but as soon as it beats in it will flip over on you (even with an extreme hyzer).

Exception- I kept this disc in my bag for a long time for 2 shots:

    1) There was one shot that had a bend to the right and basket atop a hill. This thing (thrown high with a touch of hyzer) would fly 200 ft, drop to the right, and run up the hill.

    2) Learning to roll- it was so understable that throwing it with hyzer on a flat field would turn into a roller. This showed me the ropes before I had the power and control to move on to better rollers.

A thing: you can increase the longevity and get out dings by boiling vibram discs in water for a few minutes. Use a cooling rac (or something that gets it off the bottom of the pan) and boil for about 5 minutes. Disc will pop back into place.

FIRST:  GET THIS DISC IN X-Link Firm!!
    5 Stars for Firm,
    4 Stars for others.

OK with that out of the way:
This disc is great for beginners.  It is one of the first discs I personally bought, and is pretty forgiving to throw for people still working on their form.

For experienced players:  It is extremely easy to turnover.  It makes a pretty good roller disc, It is also pretty awesome in a nice tailwind.

So why X-Link Firm?  Well, the softer materials don't roll as well.  If you get this disc and are just starting, Firm will help future-proof this disc.  The softer materials won't roll as well, and when you start throwing with enough power to consistently turn this disc over, extending its life by repurposing it is a nice plus.  The other softer materials are a bit less roller friendly.

About the materials:  They are all insanely durable (My Firm discs are wearing slower than my Champion plastic discs with similar playtime).  I prefer Medium for most of my discs.  But, putters I prefer Firm (the chains do seem to scuff up the softer materials more readily) and this particular disc I also prefer Firm.  Dirt doesn't stick to the Firm as well, either (Medium and Soft soak up dirt like a sponge).

If I were a beginner, I'd give this a 5 star.  It's the most understable crazy disc I've ever thrown, and I still don't have it down for any consistency whatsoever. It is so understable it definitely does not do what the book says- i.e. fly 450 feet with a slight S curve. (for me)

I bought a 165g unLace for my buddy who does not throw with much power. He's still working out technique.  This is his absoluetly favoritest driver that flies the furthest for him. It usually goes straightish with fade at the finish.

For me, this disc will turn turn turn. It is a very aggressive roller. If you throw it flat with any real power, it crashes hard. If you can throw a low hyzer way left of your target, this disc will flip up and and keep turning. And usually go way up in the air.  It's crazy.  If it does fly 450 feet, it will land way right (RHBH) of my release line. And I use the heaviest one they make!  So if I throw hard, and there's a lot of room up and sideways, this disc can help me make that backward-dog-leg-long-basket. (or I could just learn to forehand it...)

It really works for lower power players and will add distance to their drives with relative control. But once you get some power going, this will be used less and less often, ultimately only for long turning drives, rollers, and hail marys.

Update on this disc.  This is my "Trick Disc" bar none!  With a tailwind or no wind it is my go to driver.  Thrown flat in tailwind or Hyzer flip in no wind this thing just goes.  Awesome S-Curve.  Long Anhyzer is perfect also.  Only trouble is headwind or cross wind.  It will flip over and not come back.  Perfect roller disc when needed.

Turned on some beginners to this disc and they all view as a must have for their bag.

I just cannot get my Laces to work out this same way.  Could be me but my Laces (3) all under 170g are meat hooks most of the time.  I need some wind to get them to behave.

This is currently my favorite disc in my bag.  When thrown right it will start out straight, turn over and glide like no other disc, then fade back at the end.  Best Max Distance driver I have thus far.

Played today and for the first time it turned and never came back, ended up in the rough.  Next fairway I pulled it again and shot a super long S curve which I am use to with this disc.

If I throw it on Hyser flip it will turn up flat and not turn over.  Again great distance for me and usually very controllable!

When playing at altitude, as long as I'm not facing any wind, I can get pretty incredible distance with this disc on a Hyzer release.  With any wind or when playing at sea level, it's more of a turnover shot or finesse line drive disc, but I can throw huge with this thing when you have the right conditions

Also, at one point I plugged a firm Unlace into an electrical tower on a full power drive.  Instead of taking a chunk out of it like most discs would, the Unlace dented.  When I got home, I dipped it in a pot of boiling water, and it snapped right back to its original shape.  Most discs would have been ruined by this hit, but you can't even figure out which spot the hit happened on now.  Vibram discs really have unparalleled durability.

It seems that there is some variation among unLaces, so here's my spin on how it flies. I don't have a big arm - my best drives on open fields for distance reach about 300, or a little more if I get everything just right. I have a 174 gm unLace in firm rubber. With an unLace, if I throw with a little hyzer, it flips up and flies pretty straight for about 250, then fades gently. But if I don't put enough hyzer on the release, it starts to turn, and never stops - while it might have a little fade at the end, it seems more like the turn is slowing down a bit. The line between these two throws is interesting, and sometimes difficult to manage. And finally, get a little air under it, and it will rise pretty high and fade out, perhaps not as quickly as a more overstable disc, but the pattern is the same. Played it a fair amount today on a very windy course. Some observations: On 8, I had a very interesting time with it. 8 is a 225 foot hole with a tight tunnel over a gulley (so rollers won't work there), with some open area around the hole and woods around the gulley. I usually go around the tunnel with a hyzer bomb, and in the wind I tried that with the unLace. (Yes, should have gone more overstable, I know). It started out okay, but then got caught up in the breeze, rose to perhaps a hundred feet, and then came bombing down on the close left side of the gully. Won't try that again. Second shot, I had trees everywhere, no good line at all, just a tiny hole in the canopy about 20' up at 11:00 (with 12:00 to the hole). So I tossed a hammer (overhand) with it, and watched it sail out the hole (yay!), and lost sight of it. After crossing the gulley, I saw the disc resting on the concrete pad under the hole. It spiraled and slid just like I hoped. Trivial 3, I just dropped the unLace in the basket (so I played it for all three shots on the hole). On 12, a 330 ft hole with a number of moderate height trees right in the line to the hole, I was planning on getting it up a bit to the left, and letting it turn back towards the middle of the fairway. But the wind was coming from the left. I got the drive I wanted, but the disc turned faster than I thought, cut through the line of trees at about 150' to the right side, went down nicely on edge, and rolled out to about 320', 45' downwind of the hole. It stopped because it ran into the soft mulch at the base of another tree - I suspect (hope) that it would have kept going, turned a bit more left, and would have done a little victory lap around the hole. Wind got me on the long putt, but knocked down an easy 3. Wasn't planning a roller, but hey, I'll take it with 25-35 mph winds. Finally, 17 is a long 601 ft, but the wind was at my back. So I thought best to go under stable. Tried to huck the unLace as hard as I could with hyzer, it flew straight for a while, then faded out at about 240 ft. No idea what happened, except possibly my arm was tired after practicing drives for 45 minutes and then playing 16 holes in those winds. Expected more after fighting wind for 16 holes and finally having it blowing towards the hole. Perhaps I should have gotten it up a little higher, to catch the breeze. The hard plastic (rubber) is very durable, and even after the abuse I've heaped on it, the molding seams are still present (and very small). Perhaps I should rub them off and see if it changes the flight. The disc also gets a "too slick" feel when it gets dust on it, and it gathers dust more than most other discs, possibly due to static electricity effects. Otherwise very nice material. My particular hard unLace is a quirky and unique disc - I feel that once I really master it I'll be able to do some things well that I couldn't really do at all before I had it. However, I couldn't see using it in a limited disc match - it's a complimentary disc that does a few unusual things well, but isn't suitable to be a main driver.
