The Viking Axe is a midrange disc, but with a slow glidey flight like a putter. The Axe has a slight dome and a stable flight with a fading finish. This is an excellent precision disc when you need an accurate placement.

    Ground Plastic Details

Viking Ground plastic has been designed to offer excellent grip in hot, cold, and even rainy weather conditions. This plastic grade is flexible and sticky compared with the other Viking plastic blends. Discs in ground plastic seem to have more glide and quickly break in to give you a straighter flight over time.

I recommend this disc to any one who needs a good 200 to 250 ft shot on a straight line. I like a good speed 4 for tee shots under 280. For some reason I don't like throwing putters off a tee but that's what I imagine 4's are for. The numbers feel true to me and when thrown with proper speed and form, it flies as indicated and doesn't turn over. I tend to either throw these standing still or with a very shortened run up, for a reason, and it seems very dependable.

As far as the plastic goes, I would rate it higher than 5 if I could. Not sure why others have said they get bent out of shape easy. I played a tight wooded course today and hit a few trees within 50 to 80 feet from tee and have seen no issues beyond a few scratches and brown skid marks. The plastic feels amazing with a sturdy but grippy feel.

The Axe by Viking is a very unique disc. Unique normally carries the connotation that something is worse off, in a way, or negatively effected by its new status. Not now, though. The Axe behaves like a driving putter, but actually has a proper midrange feel, if that makes any sense. If you bomb it, she'll hold a line, with only enough fade to confirm a park job. For being such a clumsy weapon, I would say Axe is a weird thing to name this disc. This may be petty, but the Archer is a term that I think fits this mold much better. It just kind of sits down, and doesn't skip or fuss. The Axe is a deadly straight flying disc, with as low a glide as advertised. Once again, this isn't a bad thing, and helps with what I mentioned before. The relatively low glide helps it to just stop. No fun metaphor here, it seriously just quits flying almost always when I've wanted it to. Also, what is it with the quality of the Viking plastics? For someone who hasn't thrown them, I want to tell you that these are insanely great quality discs. The base (Ground) plastic is close to Innova's R-Pro, or Prodigy's 200 but twice as good as both of those. The Storm (Premium) plastic is like a hyper durable Opto mold, I can't ever see myself beating it in anytime soon. Finally, the Armor (Durable) line is just immaculate. I love all my Vikings as is, but I have to say that if I could replace them all in Armor plastic I would.

PROS: Brings a whole new definition of precise to the Midrange variety of discs, no matter the plastic or conditions.

    CONS: None come to mind.

167g Ground plastic.  Very beginner friendly.  Very good midrange disc that could also double as a putt and approach disc.  Some midrange discs go further and I slightly prefer Infinite Discs Chariot and Discraft Buzzz, but this is still a very good disc.  Viking plastics are better than average.  Their base ("ground") plastic is comparable to Dynamic Disc's Prime plastic as one of the better base plastics.  Their armor plastic seems to be indestructible.  I highly recommend Viking discs.

A disc that is both very comfortable and very easy to throw. If you have a basket you need to reach within 150 ft this disc is perfect for you. The right-handed thrower, backhand, should be very accurate with this disc. My recommendation is to throw the disc about ten yards to the right of any given target and it will land perfectly 9/10 times.

Great disc, but, don't buy it in ground plastic. Mine is bent now. Very straight flying, true to the flight numbers. Very comfortable in the hand. I'll be buying one in armor plastic soon.

Love this disc and it is by far the most stable disc in my bag and it's pretty much point and shoot on shorter courses. I really reccomend that people don't buy it in the ground plastic. I hit a tree twice now and it's completely unusable, bent and out of shape.

I was very impressed and surprised by this disc. It has a smaller profile that fits somewhere between a putter and a true midrange. It feel very good in the hand and can handle quite a bit of power. I'd say the flight ratings (4, 3, 0,1) are very accurate with very little deviation.

The ground plastic feels great, but doesn't quite hold up to a beating like other baseline plastics, but over all is a decent quality in both grip and durability.

The lack of glide on this disc is what makes it enjoyable for me. It has just enough glide to go as far as you need it to, but not enough glide to make it understable or sail past the target. I found myself using this for a lot of upshots because of the control I felt I have with it.

    I highly recommend this discs.

My only criticism of the Axe is that it is quite similar in flight to the other Viking Discs mid-range, the Nordic Warrior. I feel like the Nordic Warrior was a bit easier to control for me, being a touch more stable. But if a new brand is going to introduce two mid-ranges upon launching, I feel like they should be a bit more diverse. That could also be my throwing style that makes them behave so similarly. This mid-range is good for 100-200 feet on a relatively straight line, though it will pull to the understable side if you put too much heat on it. It would be a good mid-range for a starter set for new players. Put it together with a Rune, and a Cosmos, and you'd have an easy-throw set for a young player or a novice.

May biggest criticism of my throwing experience with the Axe is actually focused on the plastic. Though I like the grip and feel of Ground plastic (the base plastic from Viking Discs), it really doesn't take much of a beating at all before it is bent out of shape. After a couple of tree hits this plastic looks like it's been through a battle. It's not so much scratching and chipping, but the disc actually gets bent. And this was just a midrange. I think if I were throwing a driver in Ground plastic with power and hit a tree, the disc might become unusable.
