There is something a little awe inspiring about a speed 14 disc. It's the fastest qualification we have for discs, excepting the Raketen and Missilen (Which honestly fly more like a speed 13). If you go through my reviews, you'll notice that I called the Ballista the best speed 14 driver ever made. Latitude 64 is a great company, asides from the abomination that is the River Pro. I would love, reader, to correct that stance. The Ballista is a great driver, the Thunder God Thor is just better. So. Much. Better. The Thunder God Thor is the perfect name for this disc, too. I adore Viking discs but I have to say that the names can be a bit confusing as they tend to not quite pair up with the flight characteristics of the discs who bear their name. For example, the Axe is as predictable and as docile as a midrange can be. Images of an angry but just God of the Sky do fit this mold pretty well, though, I have to say. It is a cannon. A bifrost harness able by a mortal man. I will be the first to admit that you need a speed 14 arm to throw this thing. Need. Its understandable that beginners believe they can throw these out of the box, but this is as big and bad as discs get. I can only think of maybe three discs that I would possibly recommend to a beginner that have a speed above 11, which puts them in the Distance Driver category. This is the exact opposite of the most forgiving of those options. To quote Ragnar from the series of the same name as the manufacturer, "Power attracts the worst and corrupts the best." The worst, no offense, to you noodle arms out there. The corrupting the best bit is likely about how you will never want to throw another extreme speed distance driver. Viking says that this will have a fade of 4 for a beginner throw but that should be more around six if you lack the power. In terms of its actual flight, it will go straight after your follow up, as you watch it, and still maintain that line as you pick up your bag to move on. Also, in the mobile game Disc golf Valley, their is a perk called 'Wind Break' where it doesn't seem like your disc is effected by the wind in game. I promise you, it feels like this disc has that very attribute. Back to our simulated through, though. After you pick up your bag to move to your lie it will begin that sharp but controlled right to left descent at what probably feels and looks like thirty times past your farthest drive. This is assisted by the glide. This is a 6 glide disc, make no mistake about it. I'm sure Viking were hesitant to include or update that, after all, who would believe a smaller company saying they they cracked the code for fastest/farthest driver? It does seem unbelievable. I'm alright at disc golf, but I am a long way from Eagle McMahon. I got this in the ground plastic to beat in slowly, and until it does just that, there's no chance I can see myself turning this over without wind on a flat release. One day, we'll crack the code to faster discs. I honestly believe we will. Until the big manufacturers really venture into the land of 15 or 16 speed discs, though, this will be the best available option. I am in love with this disc, and I am totally sold on this little Finnish company. To finish up, I'm quoting King Ragnar again. Viking Discs, "People will always underestimate you. You must make them pay for it,"!
PROS: This disc is a well aged mead amongst bottles of CHEAP LIGHT BEER(Trademark). A 5 foot eight Swedish homecoming queen amongst female Green Bay Packer fans. A Lamborghini amongst Ford Fiestas. An F22 Raptor amongst bows and arrows. Buy it, buy it, buy it.
CONS: If you think I wrote all this out to to say anything bad about this disc you're out of your mind.
