I had high hopes for this disc, but it didn't seem to get the shape or distance I had hoped. Discraft Scorch or a Wave performed much better for me. Maybe it's better in the premium plastic, but did not get much glide or turn out of mine.

I have owned both the baseline and the premium versions of this disc, and let me say that they are completely different discs! The baseline is grippy, feels great in the hand, but is as understable as the numbers suggest if not more so. I liked it for forehands as it is very flat-topped and gave me that hyzer flip I was looking for and a nice reliable fade.

However, in the premium plastic, this disc's turn number out to be 0 rather than -2. It's a very stable to over stable disc. the plastic is very durable. So, all in all, not a bad disc, as long as you understand that the flight numbers are completely off regarding stability.

This Mentor is so great. it can fly well, its stable enough to fade like a Teebird since the fade of the Teebird is 2, and the Mentor flies good, so beginners can rate this disc about a 9/10. because only a 9/10, it can be hard to throw a backhand with this disc, it is because it is stable, and stable discs are usually hard to throw backhand so I recommend you throw this disc forehand if you like so.

I really like this disc. It did not make my bag because it was much more understable than I thought it would have been. It flew very nicely and had a decent amount of glide. However, it did not have as much fade at the end of the flight as the numbers would suggest. I am a fairway driver thrower, and was looking to try and step up to something a bit faster, but this was just too understable for a disc this speed. Felt great though!

I got the mentor after feeling it in my hands for a while. This disc feels real good, like its meant to fly. I've always been a big fan of the Innova Archon, and this disc felt a lot like it. I was expecting something similar, but slightly more understable. My expectation was mostly fulfilled. This disc is much more understable (in baseline at least) than the numbers would have you believe. This is an interesting disc because it feels much more stable than it actually is. What I mean by that is the leading edge of the disc is far from the bottom, it has a flat top, and is very stiff. All things I've come to associate with stable discs. However, when I really put "the stank" on the Mentor, it is really quite flippy.

I tested a 170g  Serpent in a slight tailwind, and because I throw lighter (160-ish) drivers, that was enough to kill most of the turn. In a slight headwind, it pretty flew much like the numbers indicated. Surprisingly, I like the feel of the plastic. I'm not of fan of most base plastics. I also like the lower profile of the disc. It is a fairly flat disc.

If the Sea Serpent ever comes out in a different plastic, I will definitely consider getting one. I have a Champ Mystere that I like, and the Serpent is similar in flight.

Discmania is usually on top of their game, but not this time. I found one of these in a creek. It looks like it had barely been thrown, and I had been wanting to try one out.

So, I played a round with it. Threw it a ton of times, and the only times I got it to actually turn are in a headwind. Now to put things in perspective, my go to max distance drivers are Ballistas, Havocs, Halos, Wraiths, etc... those I have no problem getting to turn and utilize their flight path based on the flight numbers they are given.

I thought this would be just like a slower Shryke but it turned out to be just as beefy as a thunderbird.

That being said, I do like the grip on this plastic. Maybe if I try a different Sea Serpent and it flies how it's supposed to then I'll update this and just chalk it up to be a dud on this one.

Disappointed. I thought that Discmania could distance themselves from Innova's inconsistency in molds when they moved to Colorado, but I guess not yet.

I wish I could just edit my previous review, but the Sea Serpent deserves 5 stars imho. This disc has smacked a bunch of trees, and is still flying stable, but longer. It is really the ideal baseline driver. The plastic is great at this price .

It took me a couple of sessions in the field to figure out what I had in the Sea Serpent. As a Wraith thrower, I was expecting something along those lines, especially with an advertised turn of -2. Mine has no turn whatsoever. Thrown flat it will fly straight then hyzer out. It flexes very well though, and that was how I was able to start to have some joy with it. I am looking forward to breaking this in, to see if it unlocks some extra distance, because I find it considerable shorter than most speed 11s I've thrown. I think this may be a great disc to cycle, which would raise my rating closer to 5 stars if it happens to be the case.

This has become my new max distance driver. For me it compares to the flight I could get out of my CD2 at sea level, but I’m now at ~5,000ft and this gives me that bit of turn with very predictable fade. Can get it out 380-420ft, roughly 30-50ft more distance than my CD2s used to get me. Time will tell how the base plastic holds up but it feels great in the hand and for the price I could see rotating new ones in. Would LOVE to see this in a multiple plastics.

I'm not sure if I like this disc or not. I thought it would be a bit like a longer Innova Beast, but the one I got seems to be a bit more OS without as much glide. I like the plastic, similar to DX, and it's completely worth it for the price.

So after throwing it some and comparing it to my Wave. It flies pretty true to numbers, as any 11/5/2/2 disc will fly. It sits in the same field as the MVP Wave, Innova Tern, DD Renegade, etc. The plastic feels nice, grippy and tacky. Feels like a firmer Electron or more textured Elite X.

Overall good disc, nice cheap disc to get that will fly like the ones mentioned. The plastic holds up pretty well. I hit a few trees and it still flies the same and no noticeable dings.

As a beginner, I don't know much about what to look for in new discs, and bought this at a point where that was especially true. The artwork was beautiful, and it felt great in my hand. Though as I began to throw the disc, I realized that it fades. Hard. Harder than I was expecting at least. I'm still breaking it in, so we'll see where it ends up. The plastic feels like my Innova DX discs, and it throws a bit like my Destroyer. With my slower arm speed, I was hoping I would throw this backhand more effectively than my Destroyer, but really found it be about the same. It is currently my forehand disc that I go to on the course if I need something that fades at the end. All in all, it's a good disc, but not as great for beginners as I thought it would be.
