This is a fantastic throwing putter off the tee and in the field for upshots that need to go reliably straight. I put this on a baby anhyzer and it will glide straight for a long time and then give a bit of fade at the end. The controllability of this disc for upshots and tee shots is great. Once it gets beat it, it can hold a really nice anhyzer for long drifting left ot right (RHBH) shots.

I feel this disc is underrated, and I don't know why more people don't throw it. The Envy and Proxy have sort of taken over this space, but don't overlook the Ion for a reliable straight putter. Highly recommend!

    This thing flies STRAIGHT!

I don't have a single other disc in my bag that goes as straight as my proton Ion. I highly recommend picking one up for sub 300 ft dead straight shots. It does have some fade at the end, but nearly nothing.

I also putt with these. They might not be the best putting putter, but I haven't had any chain-outs that weren't my fault.

These are also great for approaches since they hold they line so well. Anything on hyzer will stay on that line the whole way to the ground. Anything on anhyzer will stay that way until its about to fall out of the air.

The best putter I've ever putted with or thrown.  In proton plastic this makes for a very awesome straight to overstable LONG shot, this thing goes miles for a putter.  And for putting, I use the electron which feels great in the hand and easy to get in the chains.

The Ion was the disc that made me a MVP fanboy from now until the end of time. I became a much more confident and better putter with this disc. The bead is very comfortable with putting and approaches, and is good for short distance holes.
The flight of this disc is stable and can handle any angle that you throw it.This disc can be thrown on very steep hyzer or anhyzer lines but has enough stability to prevent the disc from into a throller. I find it to have more glide than the suggested flight numbers, maybe somewhere around 4-4.5. I have not had much success throwing this forehand but my forehand ability is not the best.
The Plasma is very comfortable with the right amount of grip and flexibility. It has just the right amount of stability to where I can use this for anhyzer putts and the disc just flattens ever so slightly. I currently use this plastic for putting.
The Proton is my favorite plastic offered by MVP and I find it to be the most comfortable plastic and incredibly durable. It is also the most neutral/straight flying of the Ions the I (currently) own. I use this plastic for approaches and short drives (anything less than 200')
The Electron Firm was a bit too firm for my liking and the plastic too grippy for putts. I prefer this plastic for approaches and find it to be the more overstable of the Ions that I currently own.

Good beaded putter, unfortunately I don't like the bead. Used it for throwing straight shots, holds the line.

I finally found my putter! I've been switching putters every few weeks trying to find the disc that felt right, flew right, and above all else, made me confident. I started with Voodoos, which were ok, but I wasn't entirely clicking with 'em. Went through the Judge, P2, Pilot, Dagger, Envy, Berg, and finally the Ion. The Berg, oddly enough, was the closest I found to giving me that confidence, but it just didn't have the distance (although it's my absolute favorite approach disc and sees action on almost every hole).

I'm a "spush" putter, and adding just a tiny bit of spin on this when I release has got me more chain action from greater distances, and saved me a lot of strokes. I have a feeling I'll be buried with my stack of Ions!

The ion putter is a putter that i will never take out of my bag. The grip on the proton ion is very comfortable, it doesnt do so well when its wet, its a little too slippery. This is one of the first putters i purchased and i fell in love with it immediately. I can throw it out wide and know that it will fade consistently and it has a predictable fade as well. Throwing it off the tee you have to put quite a bit of hyzer on it for it to flip up and fly straight, if you through it with no hyzer and flat it will turn over on you pretty hard. throwing it into a headwind is risky it will float down super fast or it will lift and blow back about 15ft like it will stall out and fly backwards. but overall a solid putter.

The Ion is my putter and approach disc. I have them in electron, neutron, plasma and proton plastic. Within just a few months of playing I was putting with an Ion, and have ever since. Currently, I putt with the proton because they seem to be a little straighter flying with more glide. The Ion is stable. It has a lot of glide. It also works well for "touch" flick approach shots. Anything from 180' in I'm using an Ion.

The inside of the lip is unique. It's rounded and takes getting used to. But once I did, the 90° edge in everything else felt odd.

Always a reliable putter. I've had mine for about a year and it is my go to for shorter putts and approaches. If I don't want to put too much on it, I just toss it up right with a decent push and let it fade itself back in. Overall, it's a putter everyone should have.

I have an ion in proton plastic and is just an ok disc in my eyes. This disc just feels to slippery to me and I can't seem to get a good release on it. Comparing to other ions, mine also feels a little bit firmer, which may be part of the culprit. When it was on a trial run in the bag, it did putt decent and allowed a nice hyzer line to the basket when needed, but I could not drive at all with it. Will just stick to the wizard for this role.

The ion permanently replaced the aviars in my bag. I feel its much more predictable with the gyro. Nice and stable, with putts it WILL find the chains and with drives will have a nice "hook" finish. I have it in the eclipse proton which is PERFECT for glow rounds. Overall this disc has become the anchor of my bag.

The Proton (not soft) is very stiff. This putter is probably best for driving or longer putts. Has a tendency to roll when hitting the ground. Best wind putter (for putting, not driving) I have ever used; fights a headwind like a champ. Many players can throw Ions a long way and serve more as a midrange than a putter.

I switch from the FLX Challenger to the Ion because it has a similar flight, but with more glide and less lift in a headwind. The Gyro Technology is not a myth. The Ion has become the most important disc in my bag. I carry three. Two are in the original "chalky" plastic. The first is a blank that I used for a long time as my main putter that is a little less stable (beat in). The second is only used for upshots anywhere inside 200 feet. Give it some height and watch it fade back as it falls or snap it on an anhyzer line. The third is a new addition and new go to putter in MVP's Neutron Plastic. The only negative I have to say is to avoid the Proton Plastic for their putters. Too slick for my taste. Works fine with MVP's two midranges.

Though I use a Wizard to putt with from 50 feet and in or so, I feel like I get better spin and a bit better stability on my long-range putts with the Ion. This past weekend at Moraine I made two 65+ footers (one flat, one anhyzer around a tree) from two different stances with my Ion and it flew just as intended both times. The soft rim grabs the chains well and the disc seems to resist rolling away a bit more than other putters, which makes it a great approach disc as well from that grey area between a true approach disc and a putter.
