My all-time favorite midrange, and it is never leaving the bag. It's basically my go-to disc for anything between 200-250 feet. Mine flies almost perfectly straight, with the slightest of drifts to the right, before a smooth fade that's a little sharper than you'd think. Every player who's looking for a midrange with a mostly straight flight with a touch of fade at the end NEEDS to get this disc.

Great disc. Will have a reliable fade at the end and when put on an anhyzer the disc will fight out. When thrown from the tee box it will flip up straight and fade out even with a slower arm.

Absolutely love the feel and flight of the Matrix. I have two in Neutron plastic and they're consistent with each other. Its flat top is comfortable and great for forehand. I'm very backhand dominant, but I love throwing the Matrix forehand (backhand as well). It's my favorite mid to throw into headwinds. I'm surprised this disc isn't talked about more.

Out of the box I would say it lives up to the "moderately overstable" tag, but after a few weeks it is much less overstable & just stable with a slight dependable fade.

RHBH on a hyzer it starts out straight then rides the hyzer out to the ground. Flat release it flies straight the majority of the flight then finishes slightly hyzer. Anhyzer it rides the angle way out to the right, Then finishes hyzer.

RHFH Hyzer flips up to flat flies straight then hyzers out. Flat turns over glides right then turns back left and end. Anhyzer holds the anhyzer and never goes back to flat, unless I take quite a bit of power off.

I have around 7-8 Gyro discs all when thrown with some torque or spin. They land with a skip, roll, or tomahawk into the ground it is wet.

As a beginner this was a go to FH disc in Neutron at 178g. After playing for 6 months this is amazing for straight FH and dead straight 250 ft BH. Power down and it has a clean smooth line. An awesome disc, def worth picking one up.

Found this disc ultra reliable. albo to get it to hold a very straight line and glides well before hyzering out. Feels extremely comfortable in the hand and I would compare it to a beat in Roc3.

So I am not great with midranges that are not overstable. I got a Matrix and I find distance hard, as with my other midranges, but find it very versatile. I can throw it hard and trust it to flip some but the light fade keeps it from drifting to far right, I can throw it sifter and trust it to go straight and settle with minimum fade or I can throw a soft hyzer to let the glide have it sweep through the line.

The matrix is an extremely versatile midrange. The rim feels similar to that of a truth, but it has a flight closer to that of a roc3. The smooth profile makes it excellent for forehand and backhand throws. I always feel confident with my release when I throw this disc.

The Matrix from MVP is one of their more popular Mids. Lots of people swear by it calling it MVP's "Buzzz" but as a player with almost a full MVP/Axiom/Streamline bag, I am going to have to disagree with this. When the Matrix first came out during the MVP Circuit, I was very excited to try it. I had previously been unimpressed with the gyro Mids lineup and this thing right of the bat, felt great in my hand. I had huge expectations for this disc. Unfortunately, I was let down once again. I was looking for dead straight shots with a little bit of fade going of how it was marketed, but in my experience, it was nothing like that. Brand new, "out of the box" this thing was already turning over for me. I tried to use it as a Buzzz on the course and actually bagged it for awhile, but it just couldn't cut it. It is still however a useful Mid, it just was not what it was marketed to be and after it being beat in some, that is even more evident.

I heard MVP was getting rid of two of my favorite molds, the Axis and Vector.  The Matrix is one of the few midranges to survive the onslaught of retirements that MVP has enacted on their midrange lineup.  So, I was hoping that this disc was going to be THE DISC, so I could rest easy knowing that my mids could be replaced if I lose one. It is not. This disc isn't bad, but it doesn't wow me like the Axis/Vector. I find that out of the box this disc flies like a seasoned vector, which is great, but with a lot less glide. I really wanted to like this disc, but All in all this disc is just "meh" for me. I I give it a 3.5/5 because it's flight is great but it just would seem to land way shorter than my other mids. YMMV

The neutron Matrix has taken over my mid range shots. I was using the Envy for anything in the 250' range, but the Matrix doesn't take as much effort and flies super consistent. There are no personality quirks in the Matrix, it's a solid and dependable mid range.

This is a slightly stable mid range but you can still give it some hyzer flip if you put a little extra speed on it, however for those shots I will primarily use the electron version of the Matrix (which has also strangely enough become my go to putter.)

I wish I picked one of these up forever ago, this is such a nice disc, I can't recommend it enough.

Both of my Matrix discs are 175g. I'd love to try a lighter version of the Matrix and see what kind of shape I can get out of it, maybe I'll check out a lighter weight when the plasma version comes out soon.

The Matrix is my favorite midrange. It's MVP's roc3, buzzz, or EMAC Truth, it's just better than those discs. Most of the one's I've gotten are perfectly flat, but I did get one domey 165g matrix (neutron) that was more overstable than the weight should have been. For me, the Matrix goes fairly straight and has a glidey and smooth fading finish. It hyzerflips extremely well for long fading shots. I can put it on a slight flex line to get a straight finish. I can throw it into some headwind and it will hold fairly straight. It's a workhorse mid that is useful multiple times per round on most courses. Of note, I did not like most of MVPs other older midrange lineup (I'm a fan of the streamline runway and the axiom pyro). I'm glad to see them drop most of their mids and try to make them better in 2020.

When I bought this disc at my local store in Finland it was rated at 5/4/0/2.5.
I went into the store to buy an OS mid from MVP and had settled on the Vector rated 5/4/0/3 at that store. When I picked the vector up I HATED the feel so I tried a couple others. The Matrix fit my hand perfectly so I bought it.

Upon a few rounds of golf with it I discovered that it was nowhere near as OS as I had been promised, it's closer to the Infinite Discs rating of 5/4/-1/2. (This is the fault of the store I bought it at but it does make my score of the disc more negative).

At this rating it flies pretty much as advertised. If you put any amount of power on this above 70% (flat release) it will start to turn a bit. So many times I ripped this expecting more stability and it turned on me, usually holding the turn to the ground.

That being said, if you used the Matrix at lower power and a nice flat release it gives you decent straight distance with a very forward, gentle fade. It's useless for flex shots though as it seemed to hold any anny, no matter how slight, to the ground.

    Pros:
    Comfortable and Flat
    A very straight fade
    Cons:
    Can't fight out of anny
    Turns over too easily

I currently bag 1-2 Matrix's, a 169g Proton & 172g Neutron. The Proton is my go-to mid-range and was one of the first discs I picked up when I started playing (Feb '18). It started as an OS mid with just a bit of play, but has beaten into a straight flying workhorse mid with a consistent finish. To my current sadness the Proton I purchased is in the opaque magenta, I was new and didn't have color habits yet so it can be a chore to find in the leaves. Luckily it's amazingly consistent so I'm seldom looking off the fairway for it.

After 6 months or so I picked up a 2nd Matrix in Neutron, hot pink so I can find it well. Although it's nowhere near as beat as my Proton, it still doesn't behave the same way nor does it behave how my Proton did early on. It's an OS mid that will likely beat in straighter as well, perhaps to more understable with enough use, but I have a domey-ish run that feels floaty and dies faster than seems correct.

I make no qualms to say I'm an expert, but I've had inconsistent results with this Neutron and hear similar things regarding a specific run from mid last year. To that point, I was playing with a local MVP rep last weekend and brought up the point, showing him both, and had it confirmed there were a good number of Neutron Matrix's that came out not-quite-up-to-spec by MVP's standards. Additionally, he mentioned MVP has moved all production in-house, which implied to me that run may have been one factor in MVP deciding not to use out-of-house manufacturers who might not reach their standards.

Slight ramble aside, the Proton Matrix remains my go-to mid-range. Anybody interested in MVP/Axiom feel searching for an OS mid, this is it and it feels great. I too often find myself not throwing it enough in a round, preferring more specialized shots. But when I keep it simple and play the wide gap, I'm generally much more consistent, and I'm taking the wide gap with my Matrix, right now the middle.

This disc pretty much does what it says it will do. If you want a disc you could put a bit of power behind and be fairly confident it will hyzer back, this is the mid. Plastic is nice and the rim is decently shallow so it is easy to get a good grip.  This is the go to when I want a little extra distance than the harp.

I bought this disc because I asked an mvp employee what disc is like a shark that can handle some wind. This disc can definitely handle some wind. The rim feels great for forehand shots. I use this when I'm not using buzzz; when I need a hyzer midrange line.

I finally got around to testing the MATRIX.  I found a nice flat NEUTRON plastic 175g Matrix that had a really nice feel in the hand.  Decided to test it out - Here is my review after getting a few rounds in with it and a handful of field throws.

First Impression: Felt great in the hand.  Flatter the better - some had some dome and i wasn't a fan of that feel.  great in FH grip as well (and I'm not known for a forehand)

Flight: It really reminded me of a Buzzz for the first 70% of the flight, but the fade was more of a Wasp / Roc3 / MD4 - So it was kind of the best of both worlds.  I'd agree with the official flight ratings of 5/4/-1/2

Flight in detail: When powered down or finessed the disc flew more like a turn of 0 and fade of 3 - with the wing shape being a little more aerodynamic (pointy) allows it to have a little skip at the end.  By no means is it Zone, Gator, Drone, MD5, Justice, BuzzzOS Overstable though, only when powered down does it have that kinda flight.   But was great for little outs and pitch ups and shaping an anhyzer through the trees with ease knowing it will fade back decently

When powered up this thing flew almost dead straight.  It does have a little turn, but more of a drift and straight phase. Then as it slows it will have a mild-moderate fade.  If hyzer released just a tiny bit it flies very straight then lil fade.  If flat and a little over the top release it will bend and go on a smooth anhyzer and hold until a late soft fade.  If thrown on an Anhyzer it holds fairly well most of the flight but the disc is flattening out allowing for a nice panning flight and landing flat or with a little angle.

Overall its a DO Everything midrange that has some stability to be trusty but very workable.   This review is based on a MAX WEIGHT Neutron Plastic (flat top) Matrix - I am sure there is some difference in plastics, weights, and runs.  I guess the first/early runs in proton may be a little flippier?  Unsure but this one was great and I recommend it as a Go-To mid for many players, a Slightly OS mid for many players, Upshot disc, Flex mid for wooded courses, or if you just want to try an MVP Midrange - this is a good one ----also the Axiom Alias ;)  the straightest mid of all time

    Absolutely perfect go-to midrange

It's straight with a perfect gentle fade and I love it. Unless I really need to pull something tricky, I grab this for every 300-370' shot. Holds its line and generally just a pleasure to throw. Favorite mid to date, even knocking down the buzz which is really saying something!

this is a very solid offering from mvp  its got the perfect amount of stability to not turn and burn when thrown hard it likes to fly straight and finish with a nice mild amound of low speed fade. its definitely a good glider i think its deserving of a 5 gym glide. I can't wait for mine to beat in a bit more so it just flys and finishes straight.

This disc has got to be my new favorite midrange. Thrown flat with a 350-foot shot, it'll hold a straight line to a subtle fade because of the power on the throw. When I back off a little bit, it'll fly straight into a larger, forward fade that will fade about 15-20 feet from the straight line. The reason why I gave this disc a -0.5 turn is that into a headwind or with a strong throw, it will start drifting right before it starts trying to fade back left. The MVP Matrix is a great disc for those shots you need to be easily predictable with little to no chance of it turning over.

Just like its Proton plastic brother, this disc provides a great flight path with a consistent bite at the end no matter the conditions this disc will finish left. Personally I like the Neutron plastic better than the Proton plastic to me it feels better in the hand. This is my go to OS midrange it is not the most OS midrange available BUT it is OS enough to be a reliable workhorse midrange. Great for shaping shots in tight spaces and get out of trouble shots. It can handle both FH and BH, released on an anny it will hold the anny for most of the flight and then fight back at the end to either finish left or land flat. Highly recommend this disc for intermediate players that is looking for something that they can shape shots with or just crank down on and get solid distance.
