The matrix is my favorite mid range from MVP. It's the most used mid in my bag because it's super reliable. If you feel like you're just out of range to use an approach disc, the matrix can get the job done. Thrown flat it goes straight until it runs out of speed, then has a healthy fade at the end of the flight. It holds a hyzer angle the whole flight, and is great for turnover flex shots. If you put it on a lot of anhyzer it can still get back to flat.

The Matrix is a stable mid designed to be your main workhorse mid range driver for teeing off of sub 300ft holes. Moderately stable you can rely on the matrix to hold straight for most of its flight before fading while resisting gentle winds. While the Matrix is stable, it is not a beefcake capable eating up ripping headwinds. Playing around with release angles can result in a slew of different flight lines. Most notably a baby anhyzer release will result in a very smooth flex shot that ends straight and cover a large amount of distance. The Matrix is flat topped and has a very unique hand feel due to featuring a beveled wing instead of a concave wing, the matrix also uses a smaller diameter design being slightly smaller at 21.5cm opposed to the more standard sizes of 21.7cm-21.9cm. This unique feel is ultimately what will sell you on the Matrix or turn you off from it. Personally I love the hand feel so much so that i built my midrange lineup searching for discs that had wings similar to the Matrix.

As a lower arm speed player, this disc is exactly what I need for short, headwind approaches and decent hyzer shots in normal conditions. My Buzzz and Mako3 aren't stable enough for headwinds, so I gave this disc a try. Mine is 172g and in Proton plastic and I get about 200-240 ft with it, depending on the wind. It never turns over and does exactly what I need. I also like this disc because the rim is not the typical overstable mid rim, like the Roc3 and the Wasp. The rim feels very similar to my Mako3, just with the overmold (obviously). It is relatively flat, not domey. Once I get better form/higher arm speed, I'll get the Axiom Pyro to be my overstable mid, but for now I'm bagging the Matrix until further notice!

I throw this disc in Proton, I have 2 in the 178 gram range. I am not sure who is throwing hyzer flips with this disc. It is very overstable. It flies a lot like a Teebird but not quite as far. Throw it flat at full rip and it goes straight for about 200 feet then fades hard over to the left. Even throwing hard this disc is going to land on its left edge. I can rip this disc forehand and it still won't turn. Power it down and about half the flight will be the disc falling hard to the left. It's really nice for shots that you definitely need to turn left. I use it for shots that need to stay overstable. Throw it with anhyzer, and it will hold that line for about 1/3 of the flight, pull up to flat, then fade out to the left just like usual. It plays great in the wind with minimal adjustment needed because of the minial glide. I rated the glide lower and the fade higher than the ratings indicate. Both my discs are new, which I am sure has something to do with my numbers, but my experience is that this disc is a lot more overstable than the other reviewers are saying. For reference, I can thow my Reactors about 320 feet and they fly pretty straight. This disc is much more overstable than a reactor It's basically a shorter Teebird.

This is my go to disc for shots I need to throw hard with control. It is a midrange that will slowly pop out of an anhyzer release with its stability. This disc is very shapable similar to the discraft buzzz and will fly in a similar fashion as well. Handles the wind well and it is my go to midrange with a reliable fade.

Easily my favorite midrange! I can throw this disc on just about any line, and it holds it! It isn't the most stable midrange (as MVP hoped before release), but it is suitable for a wide range of skill levels. It has a great glide and can cover far more distance than other mids. I'm sure the gyro technology benefits are mostly in my head, but I still find that dynamic to add to my confidence, and the overmold look is really sharp in my opinion. I wish I saw this disc with more metalflake options - I have one with tri-colored flakes, and it is soooo beautiful!

This is a solid medium OS midrange. This is not the most OS disc you can find, it is not even the most OS disc from MVP, which says a lot. However, I enjoy this disc a lot. I have an early series circuit disc with a dome top, some of the later molds seems to have a more flat profile than the early ones. I think that the domier Matrix is slightly more OS than the flat top ones. the glide on the disc is great allowing you to really get quite some distance out of it. the stability is enough to ensure that the disc does not turn and burn on you but rather always comes back in the end with a reliable fade.

At first, I disliked this disc. I bought it expecting an overstable mid range for pulling hyzer lines. My first throw with it, it flipped and finished to the right. I was so confused, so I went out and just practiced soley with it to understand it. If you throw this disc fast and flat, it will pull right and finish forwards. If you throw it slightly hyzered and fast, it will flip up, and finish very slightly to the left. Throw it on an anny and it will hold its line for dogleg right shots. It's quickly become one of my favorite discs as it can do just about anything I need it to do.

The Matrix is my all time favorite disc, hands down. Nice, thin profile and super flat. It fits my hands perfectly for a power grip or fan grip depending on the shot. As a player who mainly plays in wooded courses, this is a staple in my bag for its accuracy and reliable finishes.
When I was first learning to throw (RHBH), this was a dead straight flight with a definite overstable finish at the end. A couple years later (and a bit more arm strength/higher arm speed), they still fly laser straight with a slight, reliable fade at the end. This disc can handle any angle that I put on it; hyzer, straight, anhyzer no problem and holds the angle very well. I don't consider myself to have a cannon for an arm at all so this can definitely fit into a beginner to more experienced player's bag no problem.
I don't consider myself to be much of a forehand thrower (very much a work in progress) but I am able to throw these with relative confidence. Hyzer shots or flip ups to straight, this disc can handle that when I absolutely need to throw forehand.
I own 6 (bag 4) in total and have thrown this mold in all plastics (currently offered by MVP.
    Proton: 173, 170
    Electron: 174, (2) 173
    Neutron: 173
The Proton is, by far, my favorite plastic. It is very durable, comfortable and has plenty of grip in both cold and hot/humid weather.
The Electron is second and what I would recommend for beginners or more experienced players looking for an understable mid. Super grippy, least stable of the plastics offered and way less durable. I consider this disc in this plastic to be the MVP equivalent of the DX Roc or Buzzz.
The Neutron plastic is my least favorite. Slightly more overstable, flies with a bit less glide and doesn't offer the same grip comfort that I get with the Proton plastic.

Great midrange. It's basically a buzzz with about 25% more fade at the end, so if you need to hook around some trees or another obstacle after about 150-200 feet of straight flight, it's a good disc for that. My one and only ace to date was with this disc in proton plastic on an elevated tightly wooded hole that needed to go straight and then fade right (RHFH). It did exactly that. Predictable disc and durable. Recommended.

I used to not bag midranges, I just threw Atoms in that slot, but then found the proton matrix which is basically just a longer Atom. Super straight easy thrower that will respond well to any angle you put it on and follow it.

In addition to the Proton, I bag a Neutron Matrix though it is much less frequently used.

    For me:

Neutron matrix was a bit more OS, less glide (longer Envy)

Proton Matrix was very straight stable, more effortless glide (longer Atom)

I got one of these because I was about to play a round and realized I only had a Firebird in my car, so I had to find something I could do midrange shots and maybe putt with. The local shop only had these guys and Tensors.

Tensors feel weird, so I got the Matrix. It's a great strait to very mild fade disc, you don't need a ton of power to make it work, and as long as you don't give them much anhyzer they want to stay flat and straight. Just great forward fade and really good accuracy. It feels amazing and it can easily be your main workhorse mid.

No bead, but good stability and grip.

Rated 5/5–something for everyone in this disc.

For starters, I throw this in Proton plastic, at 177g. I typically throw:

    150-167g distance drivers

    165-174g control drivers

    170-180g midranges

    169-174g putters

...so with that said, the Matrix is becoming one of my favorite discs ever as I work more and more snags out of my form. I found it useful as a utility disc when I was a beginner, but I’m carving out some really precise placement shots with it now that I am understanding the anhyzer angle a little better. It helped me reign in a flatter release and straighter pullthrough before that, and it’s an excellent distance trainer that will contend well in any 1-disc challenge. I’m confident that it will prove itself in anyone’s bag, playing at any elevation.

I find it more expressive than an Innova Mako3, a little more consistent than a L64 Fuse, more predictable than a Discraft Buzzz, more stable in winds than a DD Fugitive and meatier than an MVP Axis. Don’t get me wrong, I love all of those discs, but I almost always have the Matrix alongside any one or few of them.

Expect this disc to grow with you as your form develops. Whether you throw it regularly from the start or just come back to it once in awhile as you get better, there will be tons of neat stuff to discover. It stayed in my backup box for awhile, because I started noticing I had trouble with other MVP molds in the Proton plastic, but I came back to it on a whim one day and haven’t taken it out of my bag since. Will update this review when I find it in Neutron plastic, but I know I will still recommend the mold to anyone, overall.

This is my absolute favorite midrange. It goes longer than a Buzzz, straighter than a Roc. It is such a wonderful thing to throw, even for stronger players. It holds many different lines. I like it in max weight - my only complaint is that I can't find it in blue-sparkle/metalflake Proton plastic. I LOVE THIS DISC.

This is my favorite disc in my bag, and easily my most dependable midrange. I carry 3 in the bag right now. All of them are max weight at 178g.

The Matrix is a slightly smaller than usual diameter mid-range. It has an incredible feel in the hand with a nice profile and rim depth. I'll throw out that there is NO bead on a Matrix in case you were curious. The Matrixes are overwhelmingly board-flat top with only a few of the early Circuit Event runs having a subtle dome to them.

The flight is sneaky fast, very straight, and has a surprising amount of glide for how flat it is. It's very shapeable by the angle you throw it at. Flat throws will yield laser straight flights with a dependable fade at the end. It will hold a hyzer all the way, and can even hold nice low and smooth anny lines as well as flex out of higher anny shots. It also fights wind fairly well. It's not a Justice or Gator obviously, but I've found my Matrixes fight a mild headwind extremely well. As far as wear goes, I have a heavily beaten in Matrix that can be flipped up on a slight hyzer now and will hold buttery smooth turnovers.

If you're wondering what it's similar to, I'd would say a normal Matrix is the best of both worlds between a Roc3 and a Buzzz. The Matrix has the dependable finish of a Roc3 with maybe the slightest bit less high speed stability. For me, it's even more comfortable than my Buzzz (trust me, that is not easy for me to say) and it holds every bit as straight of flights as a Buzzz with just as much distance. When it seasons in, the Matrix basically turns into a more comfortable Buzzz with a little more fade at the end.

If you happen to get a hold of Circuit Event Matrix, that run is even a bit more overstable than it's stock run counterpart and tend to fade a little harder. A bit more Roc like I suppose, but WAY more comfortable to throw.

I got this disc thru the VIP club, and I did not see the flight ratings match up at all. I got little to no fade and this disc stayed very straight when i gave it a good throw. After realizing that i stopped using on the tee and used it only for shorter approach shots since i would turn it over if i gave it much power. Its no longer in my bag now since i already have a go-to straight mid but it is a good disc for how it throws

I have recently converted by bag to 90% MVP/Axiom and this disc made that % even higher replacing my Kastaplast Kaxe which is an amazing disc. However the matrix flies how the numbers advertise for me. It has a nice straigh flight and a reliable fade at the end. It is not as overstable a Vector but very reliable i trust it 100% in windy conditions i really recommend this disc to anyone looking for a solid RHFH mid or an overstable mid in general. this disc is consistent and reliable pick one up!

A Great Disc That Does Not Fly As Advertised

I enjoyed throwing the MVP Matrix, and it's a great disc that could probably fit into anyone's arsenal.

Now that I got that out of the way, let me straight up say that this is nowhere near the most OS mid-range that MVP makes. The Tensor is far more overstable and most Vectors are as well. To me, the Matrix flew very similar to a Roc3 from Innova or and MD3 from Discmania: good glide, subtle turn when thrown with power and a noticeable but not harsh fade. Excellent for both backhand and forehand with a comfortable rim and top. The Matrix is overstable enough to resist wind, but not OS enough to eat it. The wind will cause turn and drastically reduce the fade, but won't flip it over (at least in normal wind conditions.)

The Matrix is one of MVP's stronger releases to date, but they really need to adjust their advertising. In Innova terms I see the Vector as a Champion Rancho Roc, whereas the Matrix is a Roc 3.

This disc is awesome! It flies very straight and can handle a good amount of power. The Matrix is quite overstable. It feels wonderful in the hand. Overall a solid disc.

To throw this disc is wonderful. It always flies straight and is a very consistent flight path. I have been able to throw it with a anhyzer line, however, it comes out creating a nice "S" shape flight path. Basically quite useful for I know that it will come out of the anhyzer. For hyzer lines it is wonderful to throw. It can execute hyzer lines with ease.

Overall the Matrix is an excellent disc. Flies straight, consistent, and great for hyzer lines, or "S" shape flight paths. It is a great plastic and feels amazing in the hand. Its a great disc.

This is MVPs answer to the Roc3. If you know how a Roc3 flies, then you know what this disc will do. The main difference is that the Matrix is totally flat like a Buzzz instead of domey like a Roc. The gyro tech makes it torque resistant, which makes it excellent for forehand throws. My bests throws with this at Circuit were forehand and that is quite unusual for me. A very good overstable mid, but not the meathook that many MVP fans were wanting.

Everyone at the Circuit event put this disk into their bag.  For me, it replaced my Roc and Rancho Roc3.  It is more reliable in wind, has good glide and distance, releases cleanly with no bead, flies level with a strong fade when it slows down.  A meathook it is not.  I am a RHFH dominant player and have trouble powering it down, so this disc does not replace my A1, which besides a Justice, is the only midrange disc I am capable of throwing forehand, without having to worry much about turning it over at the wrong time.  The Matrix would not be optimum for very new, slower throwing players, but should be very good for average or better players.  Also: it looks phenomenal in see-thru Proton plastic.  Definitely the best looking midrange in my bag, and my go-to midrange for night flights.

I really like this disc.  When delivered strong and flat,  it stays flat and flies straight with a medium fade at the very end. It's not as over stable as the numbers indicate.  I would rate it at about 2.5 for low speed fade. It has a very predictable flight.

The Matrix is a solid midrange. This is just an excellent all purpose over stable midrange. The Matrix isn't going to turn over on you, but it's not a disc I'd call super overstable. It's definitely no DD Justice. Even though it's overstable, this disc seems to glide really well and go far before the fade really kicks in. I love throwing the MVP Matrix for shots that need to hyzer finish.

The Matrix has a fairly flat profile for a midrange and a good feel. I especially like it for forehand approach shots as the inside rim isn't too deep to get my fingers caught. I didn't dislike the Vector or the Tensor, but I just like the Proton Matrix better.
