The Griffon is an easy-to-throw, understable midrange disc that is ideal for new players or for anhyzers and shots that you want to finish right. If you're a new player with throws that seem to fade too early every time, a disc like this might help you get that throw straightened out.

NOTE: This disc is PDGA approved under the name "XPT3" or "Grampus"

The Premium Glow Griffon is a great disc. I was testing out a few 9-10 speeds and a couple mids, and found that with a tailwind the Griffon would go as far as or farther than my Undertaker -- and much straighter. Therefore, give it a bit higher glide. It's a bit domey (which enhances the glide), which is less comfortable for me and takes a bit more focus to get the release I'm after. It didn't seem to have as much turn as the flight numbers suggest: even into the wind it didn't turn over like I thought a 2.5-turn disc would, and didn't even veer to the right a whole lot. It is clearly more understable than it's sibling the Eden, though. Cool looking stamp and the glow plastic is fun to have. I look forward to trying that out during the summer evenings!

This is actually a really nice touch forehand disc for turnover shots, definitely worth considering if you like discs such as the Tursas or Lobster as it is pretty much right between those two

    Throwing Premium Glow Griffon (172g)
This has a very specific place in the beginner's bag and the advanced player's bag. It is important to note the proper use case. You would not use a screwdriver as a hammer and expect positive results. It is consistent and EXTREMELY reliable under the right circumstances:

    • Throw it as an approach with mild power (one reason it's great for starters)
    • Throw within 150ft of the basket
    • Aim straight for the basket, no fancy turns  or angles
    • Use one finger wrapped around the rim and a fan grip on the rest

On the other hand, it's also important to note what this is NOT:

    • NOT a power mid/driver
    • NOT for use off the pad (unless a really short hole)
    • NOT something you can crank on at high speed or throw in a windy environment

This is a bit more glidey than advertised and the turn is enough to keep it straight when thrown with light power but theoretically could land to the right if overpowered a bit but I don't think that's the best use for this disc. Throw this in the correct way under the right conditions and you will be AMAZED; it is a miracle maker!

Was my mystery disc a game changer?

    No, no it was not.

I got this disc recently as a mystery disc which I always sign up for it's a great way to try disc I may have never considered buying. A lot of the times I've gotten some pretty good discs this way. This disc however though I don't think it's a terrible disc, I don't think most experienced disc golfers will have much of a use for it.

The understable was of this disc was so flippy for me no matter what power and speed And hyzer i threw it at it would flip to anhyzer and go straight to the ground.

I do think however that this disc would be a great disc for a beginner player and am going to keep mine to give to someone just starting out. In hopes of helping them get a little more distance then they will probably be used to getting from more stable and over stable discs.

Oh post note... I do really like the feel of the XCOM premium glow plastic the disc came in.

Interesting disc. It turns a little more than expected for me, with almost no fade throwing backhand. Throwing forehand it flexes nicely when given some hyzer and holds the line all the way to the ground when given some anhyzer. I realize it is currently winter where I live but at 40°f it is slick and not easy to grip. Having said all that I didn't realize how useful an very understable mid could be in my bag....
