The MVP Octane is a stable-to-understable distance driver from the high-speed 23mm class.  Octane falls in the general stability lineage of Switch, Amp, Inertia, and Wave, with a slight-turn profile that holds long and straight until its fade finish.  The 23mm Octane is designed to be relatively less understable than its 21.5mm counterpart Wave. Average throwers should see straight flights with fade, while power throwers will be able to hyzerflip for max distance and tailwind lines.

I love this disc for throwing max distance fore hands.  This disc is pretty true to numbers for me on the forehand and can throw it a little over 300 ft.  On backhand this disc is super stable for me and is good for going left.  Proton plastic looks, feels, and throws great.  I have had this in my bag on and off and still looks new.

I have 2 of these, both 174g Proton plastic. I use these when I need very long distance with control. I use these specifically on wide open holes as they do require some space for the full turnover and fade flight. Perfect for easy distance and a reliable end fade when given enough height.

Edit: I wanted to add more to my review as I have thrown these more and more and have purchased some Neutron Octanes. The molds for me have been very consistent, i.e. my new ones fly exactly like my old ones and they don't really seem to "beat in". These are not the most glidey discs, but I like them for those long straight shots and they pretty much match their flight numbers. I can flip them to flat/turn them over and they can hold a line, but they always fight back. They will turn on a hard throw, but never seem to go off the rails like my Katanas. I really like my Octanes for controlled distance and can throw them on big hyzers or flat and get them to stay straight longer than most of my other drivers.

The biggest positive about this disc is that I swear it never skips. Something about the overmold keeps these guys from getting unpredictable skip that I see with my Destroyers. This means you get the control you want from a driver without the worry of unpredictable endings.

    MVP's Take on a Destroyer

This disc is basically a destroyer. Sure it flies a little bit farther, and sure that overmold tech will keep it a bit straighter for a bit longer, but it's still just a destroyer. For those who are not familiar with destroyers (welcome to disc golf), the destroyer is one of the most popular distance drivers to date with a heavy s curve. The main issue with them is the lack of consistency coming from Innova to the point where even the pros have trouble finding the particular one they want. I've never really liked the flight of destroyers so I'm not the prime candidate for this disc anyway. Nevertheless, I found it to be more consistent than it's Innova cousin.

The Octane in proton plastic is slightly more overstable than my neutron. I found that they complement each other decently well when my neutron started to get broken in and a little more flippy.

    I have a Dimension, 2 octane's, a havoc L64,  and a wave for my distance drivers.

I am primarily a RHBH thrower but this is my go to disc when I need to throw RHFH. Very predictable flight patter and I can get this disc 330ft without really having to rip hard on it. A must have in my bag.

Crazy big speed disc for me but its pretty nice. comes off on a flat line and fades out pretty quick but gives nice distance and a decent anhyzer line.

First thing you notice when picking up this disc is how wide the rim is! Took me a few throws to feel comfortable with it and I must say this is a bomber disc. Definitely intended for shots in the 400' and up range.

I love wraiths and destroyers and this disc feels like a longer destroyer. I have a MF proton and it whips out with some nice steady turn before coming back on the fade just as the numbers say.

I haven't had one for very long at this point but right off the shelf it flies very well. Also has been very consistent for me, it goes right where I'm intending it to go. Holds up okay in the wind. I'd say the turn for me personally seems just a tick higher than what is listed so I still go back to a destroyer when dealing with a stronger wind but love this disc when needing a long drive. This thing does not have a low gear at all..it just goes.

For anyone who throws destroyers or similar flight-pathed discs I'd definitely give the Octane a look. A bit forgiving even with the wider rim. I put about the same amount on the throws with these as a destroyer and it always goes a solid 20-30' further on the low end.

This is an excellent disc for advanced players starting to get some good snap on their discs. It is hard to turn over but it will glide a long way with good power put into it.

This is a shot shaping disc!! I have it in 174g metal flake Proton and out of the hand this thing glides on the turn and will always fade back straight. If you need a nice s line over 300ft this is the disc. Period. If you need something over stable this might not be your go to unless you release it on a hyzer flip and it will go straight and dump out quick. I can compare it to a beat in Destroyer or a new Katana. If you are thinking MVP this is a beafer Catalyst or a less beafy Photon. I carry a mixed bag and there is no other manufacturer making a disc that fills this hole.

I love love love my Octane, this is my one of my favorite wider rimmed drivers from MVP and my go to straight driver for 300-350ft shots. My arm is not the strongest or fastest On a good day with slight tail wind, and perfectly caffeinated I max out my drives around 375ft, but none the less I find a lot of use for this disc and it holds a permanent slot in my bag. Definetly one of my favorite MVP molds. I would highly recommend this disc for anyone starting to move up from 20mm class drivers and wanting to dip their toes in to the bigger rimmed pool.

So in an attempt to up my game I dug into some videos to learn how to hyzerflip and this was one of many discs I tried out. (tern, impulse, pro valkyrie, wraith, avenger, plenty  others) Anyway once I was able to perfect my form the octane consistently drove 25-50 feet further then everything else.  Just purchased a 169g plasma to see if that brings me up another echelon of distance capabilities.  Overall very impressed with the disc.  Once michigan thaws I am sure to add 50+ feet to my drives also. 10/10 would buy.

The Octane is aptly named. Its a very fast driver, easily in the speed 13-14 realm. It has a noticeably sharp rim and the one I have has a lot of dome. Its a pretty stable-slightly overstable flier. It will turn a bit on hard rips, but is resistant to flipping over completely. The Octane isn't a beginner disc. It needs to be thrown hard enough to engage the high speed turn to maximize distance. Throw it too lightly and the Octane seems to simply hyzer and stall out. It needs the full S curve. I figure if you can't hit 375' consistently, the Octane is probably too much disc.

It glides decent, but not remarkably. The Octane is a disc that will give you whatever distance your arm can provide. The disc itself isn't going to magically go further than others of similar speeds.

Overall, its a very capable distance driver that can handle big arms. It loves to flex out on sweeping S curves. Its lightning fast and will hang with the longest speed 13-14 discs on the market today.

This disc can be kept in relatively tight quarters due to it's really tight S.  The Octane likes to be thrown anhyzer, holds for 100-150 ft, and then fades back past center.  Not as long as the Teleport or Relativity, but easier to throw standstill, in a tight fairway, or with bad footing. Not quite a tunnel shot disc, but a long 30' wide fairway is it's bread and butter.

I have a 166 g Proton and a 173 g Neutron.  The Proton is my favorite, as the lighter weight allows me to get more extreme anhyzer on the disc and hold that line for longer (my release is faster with the lighter disc and I loose some speed with anhyzer releases).  Proton seems to have more glide.

This is my favorite bomber disc. It will have a nice turn with a late fade at the end when given the right power. It immediately upped my distance game.

Flex all day! It's a great companion to the Catalyst. I  bag both at 165 g.

The octane is in between the ddx and destroyer in stability, making it the perfect out of the box distance driver for people who have a bit too much power for the ddx but who can't quite flip a brand new destroyer. A lot of people use a seasoned destroyer for this but I really don't like relying on beat up discs for a lot of reasons and it's really nice knowing that if I lose one of my octanes I can easily replace it. It's a bit faster than a destroyer and seems to hold its speed much better towards the end of the flight. I still bag a destroyer for max distance headwind drives but if axiom comes out with a disc in between the nitro and the octane I'll probably switch my destroyer out for that.

    166g Proton.  RHFH

This is it.  It was described to me as a longer and better Destroyer.  I like Destroyers.  I throw the Octane farther.  Handles forehand well and is consistent.
