The MVP Octane is a stable-to-understable distance driver from the high-speed 23mm class.  Octane falls in the general stability lineage of Switch, Amp, Inertia, and Wave, with a slight-turn profile that holds long and straight until its fade finish.  The 23mm Octane is designed to be relatively less understable than its 21.5mm counterpart Wave. Average throwers should see straight flights with fade, while power throwers will be able to hyzerflip for max distance and tailwind lines.

This has been a welcome addition to my bag.

Feel: MVP Plastic just feels wonderful, their Neutron plastic is firm, yet has enough grip to not feel like I'm going to slip.

Flight: I have both a 161g and a 174g Octane. The 161g Octane is noticably flippier than the 174g out of the box. The 161g will flip up from hyzer, give you a nice small turn before fading nice and smooth at the end. While the 174 will barely flip up from hyzer, to just fade the whole flight. The 174g makes for a decent wind fighter, while the 161g makes for an absolute bomber of a disc!

Verdict: This disc is a wonderful addition to anyones bag, as long as they understand that (as is with most of MVP's molds) weight truly matters! I try to keep my MVP molds in the 165-170g range, as I find they fly most true to numbers.

I got a neutron Octane to pair with my 163g fission one to be a bit more stable. It is an awesome disc but not that at all. It is very stable, like windfighter stable. More stable than most Destroyers I have thrown. More stable that my raptor eye Rive, more stable than my orange Timelapse. Still very usable as a reliable disc but not the reliable distance getter I was expecting.

This disc is a great disc if you are starting to figure things out in your backhand. This is a great way to test how far exactly you can throw. I can get this thing to 400 ft and 350 ft with relative ease. It has effortless distance on it, and can even hold up to my forehand torque, which also is around 400 ft. I would highly recommend this to anybody who wants to throw far with pretty shocking control.

I would describe it as a beat-up nuke. That is some very high praise

I love this disc. I bag three Neutron plastics and one Fission plastic Octane. I can top out my distance at just over 500 feet with them.

In the neutron plastic, they start out pretty overstable, but they beat in to be decently understable.

In the Fisson plastic, they are great Hyzer-flip distance drivers with fantastic glide.

I would call this disc a take on Innova's Destroyer, only the Octane has a larger rim and more glide.

At the end of the day, this is an all around great distance driver with a great S-curve and great glide.

I have thrown 3 octanes so far and each one has flown quite different. The first octane I got was an old used proton that flew on the ideal flight for my arm (~350 ft on a big rip). It flew dead straight for about 70% of the flight before it began to fight out and give a massive skip. It was a fairly old proton and ended up cracking when I launched it into a wooden post. The second octane I have thrown was a neutron and it was fairly more stable than the used proton but still is workable. I find that I can throw this neutron octane on slightly more anhyzer to get the flight I did with the proton octane. The third octane is a brand new proton and it is beefy. I throw it flat and it fights out a lot quicker than either of the two before it did. I love the way that the octane can beat up and become a dependable and useable distance driver for decent arm speed throwers. I love how the disc feels in the hand and I am excited to try and beat up my two to see how well they handle a beating. I think most amateur disc golfers could find a place for an octane whether it be for the overstable utility slot or even the straight but stable flight path that I use it for right now.

So, I'm somewhat a beginner and I have octane in neutron. I can throw it with confidence to 350 with it finishing left.

It's a little more flippy than -1 for sure, but it'll give you a distance you desire. I'd say it flies like a beat in nuke

While I am still new at the game, I have to say this disc does not try to manhandle me the way some other (slower) discs have. Love the weight and feel in the hands. Flies straight with a pretty consistent finish with the wind or with a tail/cross wind.

As a 13 speed disc, I love the Octane for super long max distance lines and controlled drives all the same.

    The Flight

The Octane holds up to power well in the Neutron Plastic. At 480+ feet, the Octane has a good amount of turn but not too much to where it will turn and burn. It has great glide for being such a fast disc.

    The Feel

Neutron plastic is incredibly good feeling. Even with it's excellent durability, it still provides grip and pliability in cold and wet weather. Larger hands will enjoy throwing the Octane because of the thick rim. My only complaint is that the dome and shoulder do not mesh well with my forehand grip.

I bounce back and forth between this and a shryke as my distance drivers with no headwind. With no wind or a tailwind, I can absolutely crush this disc in neutron plastic.

It is understable, but not so much that it will just turn over and burn into the ground unless released on anhyzer. Released flat, it'll get a nice long s curve. Released on a bit of hyzer, flips up to flat and stays straight forever.

Since it's 13 speed, I don't think it's real beginner friendly. As an into to 13 speeds, it's not a bad way to go, but slower speed arms won't get much out of discing up to an octane.

Great disc. I have played one full round with it and I can bomb FH drives with this disc. Throwing this slightly hyzer forehand gives it a nice flat flight for long distance. I also hit dead center on the basket from 250+ with an obstructed FH shot. I have already ordered a backup in plasma for slightly more stability.

I bag three Octanes in three different plastics. To my friends I describe the Octane as a flippy Destroyer or a Wraith.

Originally I bagged a Proton Octane, 166g. Typically I drive around 400 ft, with a max of 460ft. I found the Proton Octane to be very domey, which I like, and have a great grip. The Octane got me about 15 ft more per drive on average. The Proton Octane flexes for about 70% of its flight, but will come back given you have enough air under it.

I bag a Plasma Octane at 170g. The Plasma has a similar dome to the Proton, but is slightly more stable. I can get the Plasma slightly farther than the Proton on average because it does not flex out as long, but it will still flex.

I also bag a Neutron Octane at 174g. The Neutron Octane is more flat than the other two, but is still a little domey. Neutron is my favorite plastic for its grip and familiar feel across molds. My Neutron Octane flies more stable than my other two Octanes, and will take more power than the other two, and, as a result, I can throw my Neutron Octane the farthest (up to my max distance range).

I have only had this disc a few weeks, but it's already replaced all my other long-distance drivers.  I use the MVP Tesla for most of my drives, but if I feel I need that extra bit of power, I'll pull out the Octane.  It flies pretty much like the Tesla, but it takes more power and it's a little less stable.  The Neutron plastic is incredibly durable, and it feels amazing.  This disc isn't the best in the wind, and the colors it's available in aren't the easiest to see.  Otherwise, it's another outstanding disc from MVP.

The Octane... this is my go to disc for distance! Absolutely love the Octane for long open holes. If I'm on a long open hole that i need a lot of distance on, this is what I am reaching for. Great for anny flex shots as well as long shots that you need overstability on. It doesn't have a ridiculous ammount of fade but the fade is definitely noticeable. I am a predominately BHLH thrower and if I need a long distance drive that needs to finish left, I will throw the Octane flat. If I need something to finish straight to a slight left, I will put some anhyzer on it and mash on this thing because it will turn some but definitely come back. I highly doubt the Octane will ever leave my bag!

This disc legitimately added 20 ft to my drives, surprisingly controllable for a 13 speed. Numbers are accurate stable, not over stable.  Absolutely bombs.

my go to distance driver. this thing is great. flys mostly straight with a little bit of turn for about 80-90% of its flight then ALWAYS fade back for me. first disc i was able to throw 350'+. great disc.

It took me about 5 throws with this disc before it became my go-to distance driver, enabling me to smash past my previous landing zones on several holes with its consistent slight S curve.  I'm not really saying anything that hasn't already been said by others here, but I have a feeling this is going to be my go-to driver for a while.

Before I got my hands on the MVP Octane I thought I could throw pretty far.  I had a personal best of 450 when throwing wide open and right around 400 feet of actual disc golf distance.  Once I got the Octane I smashed all those distances, quickly.  The Octane is for all intents and purposes a rocket ship among air planes.  It has just enough stability to be thrown into a slight headwind and keep a true line and just enough understable turn to allow big distances in tailwinds as well.  I could literally play an entire round with this disc as my only driver.  This disc goes so far I have thrown past baskets that I couldnt reach last year.  Buy yourself an Octane, you can thank me later.

This disc is almost like a Innova Wraith to me.  It has some turn at high speed, carries a nice straight-ish flight then hooks up . - I had a 174g Neutron

Its not super flippy by any means.  It's not super overstable either.  It's a sweet-spot disc.  Really liked it.

It does not like heavy  headwind. Crosswinds kinda killed it.  Can lift and hyzer out if not thrown correctly.  - overall its fine for most light-moderate winds - the dome can sometimes lift

Overall rate it 12/5/-1.25/2.25 (because it bites kinda hard, but really late in the flight)

Nice disc, I like it.  I was looking for a Tern/DDx type disc that was more High Speed Stable.  And this kinda hit the nail on the head.  I like it. If you work it in or have a lighter one I can see this being a good turnover disc, ssssSlightly Understable is how'd I'd call it's stability.

****update:  as I use the Neutron Octane more its worn in to a sweeeeter spot.   This is still NOT a flippy disc, mine is 174g but i grabbed another Octane and both are plenty stable.  I trust them in wind .   I picked up a Mayhem and these 2 combo reallllly well.

The Octane is a really nice feeling disc, the wing is pretty much dead center PLH wise and though the rim is big it's nothing too daunting.

It's a fast disc, with good stability, and I didn't experience the desgree of turn noted on the in-bounds chart on my backhand throws. For reference I throw the King as my main backhand driver and put it around 400-420 on most throws, and this one I tried to throw with the same arm slot...major fail barely went 350. After making adjustments I got it up in the high 300's a few times but never broke 400 with it.

FH it was easily hyzerflipped over 425 and I saw more of the advertized turn.

I probably wont bag it, but if I wanted to just carry one discance driver this could be it.

Reminds me a lot of the Tresspass.

The Octane is certainly a much higher speed disc than the Wave.  I would actually say it's closer to a faster Photon, as it's turn is very minimal.  I was able to put this on a large anhyzer expecting it to pull over into a roller, and it actually fought back to flat and even faded back a bit.

I have noticed with all of the 23mm discs, there is a noticeable plastic flashing line along the edge of the disc.  I'm not certain if this is intentional or not, but it actually caused quite a bit of discomfort in my palm after a few rounds with them.  I'm certain it will eventually wear off, and I know this is common in other brands, but I've always appreciated that MVP disc's manufacturing process didn't leave flashing lines so I'm a little disappointed.

The Octane, along with the Nitro are great additions to the MVP lineup. I think they compliment each other well, and MVP throwers will enjoy the added distance. I found the thicker rims honestly more comfortable in my hand than other MVP discs, and they released smooth and nice for me. I would definitely recommend this for MVP throwers looking for that extra distance!

picked up a 174 Octane. and let me just say this thing can bomb with the right arm throwing it. The rim is a little bit awkward at first but it flies almost exactly like a beat in star boss. used it for a max distance driver today and easily broke 400 after going through a tree. easily going to become a new workhouse distance driver.

I threw a 171g Octane and struggled to get much distance before the fade, but I can blame my lack of power. The disc flew really well, and I like the feel of the wider rims. I typically struggle with high-speed discs, but I like the Octane more than some of the others on the market. I could see myself using it as an overstable driver, but not for maximum distance in my case. This disc is well recommended for the more advanced players.
