    Ground Plastic Details

Viking Ground plastic has been designed to offer excellent grip in hot, cold, and even rainy weather conditions. This plastic grade is flexible and sticky compared with the other Viking plastic blends. My Flight Ratings: 7/5/0/2 Very Beginner Friendly Throwing Distance: 200 Straight Score: Slightly Overstable

I was devastated when I lost my Explorer so I got this during a sale as a backup in case I ended up one day losing the replacement Explorer I bought. While the Barbarian is slightly more stable than I found the Explorer to be, the difference is minute. Excellent disc for beginners or lower arm-speeds, this disc will reveal all of its secrets to you the first round you take it out for. There's really nothing special or hidden. It's a fantastic way to break into higher speed drivers and could even be used as an approach disc in a scramble. The only thing that makes it not 5 stars for me is that it just wasn't as good as the Explorer for me, specifically. YMMV.

Great fairway driver. Flight numbers are fairly accurate, but I would say a fade of 1 rather than 2. I use this disc for mainly side arm drives requiring about 250 feet max distance. The ground plastic is very tacky and grippy.

I am looooving this disc in the Ground plastic (which is kind of like DX, D-blend, pro-d, etc). it has great glide and a straight flight before its end of flight fade. once beaten up, it still keeps that stability but doesn't fade as hard. I much prefer the disc in Ground over Storm plastic, which krazzzyyyyyy overstable.

I'm totally confused by the other reviews of this disc. It is the worst disc I have ever thrown, not at all true to the ratings. Perhaps there is inconsistency in the mold but the one I received is incredibly over stable.  I typically throw a saint pro which has equivalent flight ratings and throw it 275-300feet consistently with a nice predictable late fade. This disc flies more like a felon- 150 feet then a sharp dive straight into the ground. Even throwing into a stiff 15 mph win I couldn't keep it in the air.

I have always thrown big name plastics, mainly Innova, Prodigy, and the Latitude 64 family. These are some of the bigger names in the game, along with Discraft, MVP, and Discmania. If Viking continues to make discs like this, they will join these ranks.

Hyperbole is easy to come by on this site, and five stars is not an uncommon rating. I think, for the most part, that's a good thing. With how diverse the needs of Disc Golf players can be, I really don't think its fair to have any reviews that are hypercritical. If someone likes the disc for something, and is reliable for whatever shot the player needs, then that's fine. Only now I regret this. The Barbarian is the new definition of the fairway driver. I am full aware of the army of competitors who fall short, you'll recognize some of the names, I think. The Innova TeeBird Line, Eagle, Pegasus, Discmania FD2, Instinct, Prodigy F2, Latitude 64 Explorer, Legacy Patriot, Discraft XL . . . I can go on. If you want a hyper reliable, no nonsense point and shoot fairway driver there is absolutely no excuse not to have this disc. In hand, it feels great, from the time you set up your grip to the time you let it go. That weird middle ground of rim width normally tough to contend with that characterizes most fairway drivers, at least for me, is more or less gone. It just fits like a glove. Games we play like this are so much more mental then we give them credit for, and the peace of mind provided by the flight path and the ease of actually throwing this disc are priceless to me. This is an absolute masterpiece.

PROS: Five stars doesn't work for me here, this disc is a 98/100. The score doesn't quite come out perfect because the pessimist in me won't quite allow that.

CONS: None. My optimism won't allow me to put any down.
