    Pro Details

Innova Pro Line uses a special blend of plastics that provide unique qualities for each disc model. The different blends of Pro Line plastic produce discs with a wide range of rigidity from extremely soft to firm and stiff.

Pro plastic is more durable than DX, and provides a better grip than Champion Plastic. Discs in pro plastic tend to be slightly more understable than counterparts of the same mold in other premium plastic blends.

I find it really interesting that the Vulcan has such a wide range of opinions, and even more interesting that almost all of them have a high degree of truth to them even though they sound very contradictory.  What's keenly apparent is the fact that it depends almost wholly on the particular mold you happen to get, because it sounds like they all fly very differently.  I definitely lucked out, because I plucked a brand new Vulcan Pro 168g out of a used disc bin a couple weeks ago and immediately added 40'-50' to my drives with beautifully shaped flight paths on both flat and anhyzer throws!

Context: I'm 60+ with a bad right hip, so I don't get the benefit of X-step runups or leg-whip follow-throughs; and I'm almost exclusively a RHBH guy because of my hip.  I primarily throw slight anhyzers from a more or less stationary and upright position (Thanks, Philo!) with better-than-average whip speed, and I live in that under-stable Vulcan / Katana / Tern / Mamba / Roadrunner lane as a rule.  I also picked up a Champion Daedalus awhile back but haven't had as much luck with that, probably because I find Champion plastic to be way more overstable than Star or Pro as a general rule.  Little by little I've been working my way back to a couple Shryke's that I picked up when I first started, but this Vulcan Pro may render that completely unnecessary.  If an old man with a bum hip can get 400' with 2 or 3 different consistent & predictable flight paths, you might want to consider giving one a try!

I have a few of these I use for max distance rollers. Rolls up to 450 feet. The Vulcan is fast and very understable but it does have some low speed stability too so it works pretty well for my distance roller shots. I can let this go on angle and it will hold that to a 200-250 foot landing spot and then take off rolling. Dialing in the angle is tricky and it takes a lot of practice to do so. I have parked some 400 plus foot holes doing this where I cannot get air shots too. So it works well for that.

A Champion Vulcan was the first high speed driver I bought when I first started.  It was labeled as one of those easy distance discs which like many others I thought would give me more distance.

I've thrown 3 different Vulcans but at different stages in my disc golf experience.  The champion version was a meat hook for me when I first started.  Every throw I had faded hard.  I probably wasn't throwing much further than 200' the time so obviously Ishouldn't have been throwing any high speed driver.

The second Vulcan I threw was a Star Vulcan I found with no name on it.  At the time I was probably throwing 300-320' and for me the disc had just a mild turn and a decent fade.

Just recently I've been trying out some discs for a good hyzerflip/turnover disc so I gave a 175g Pro Vulcan a try.  My form still needs a bit of improvement but I'm continually making incremental improvements.  On a good day I'm generally throwing in the 340-380' range.  My FH is probably in the 300-350' range.  For me I found the Pro Vulcan very touchy.  The majority of my throws turned over and went into the ground.  I believe there are 2 reasons this happened.  One because for pull isn't consistently straight which affect my release angles.  Two because this disc is very understable and if not released smoothly and on the right angle it's turning over and not coming back.

If you are considering the Vulcan I recommend holding one before making the purchase.  The tall dome and the thin edges rim combines for a very unique feeling disc.  This disc just isn't for me.  It doesn't feel good to me BH or FH.  If a disc doesn't feel good to you it can potentially affect your release which was the case for me.  Also, if you are purchasing one in Pro plastic keep in mind some Pro plastic is softer and grippy (kinda like GStar) and others are more stiff (which is what the Vulcan I tested was).

175 Pro Vulcan. I was very unexpected by the amount that I like and use this disc. This is a very understable disc that I like to put a slight hyzer on to make it pop up and still go a little understable.

Not a beginner disc. It is a disc that eventually deserves a spot in everyones bag though. I found my pro 167 to be the missing link in the development of my Hyzer flip. This disc makes a good first 13 speed disc. A lot of people like to say that you will outgrow this disc. I don't really find this to be true. I did stop using it for a while though because after a basic hyzer flip you need some experience for this one. Once my game developed i found that it is a great disc for shaping lines. By tweaking the speed and angle of my release as well as the amount of spin you can bend this thing through almost any set of trees. If you take the time to throw this disc a lot you can make some pretty impressive shots with it.

I've tried out both my friends pro vulcans on various occasion. The disc seemed to work for me really well for forehand shots, but it'd be interesting to try bh now seeing as I'm not too incompetent at throwing bh's anymore. In terms of forehand throws this disc can get some seriously good distance. But at the same time it takes some shot shaping to get your shots right with this disc. It may not throw as simple some of the more straight throwing drivers, but this disc can get some serious distance if its flight characteristics are understood very well.

I LOVE this disc in pro plastic new, BUT it beats in super quick after a few solid trees. I was a 350' ish driver with wraiths, and a 320'ish with teebirds, but when I learned to hyzer flip with a pro vulcan, I easily pushed it out to 450'. It was incredible! I tried the stars and they were way more stable than my pro and flew nothing like each other. The star vulcan is much like a star katana and I was only getting it back out to 350ish. If I had a whole lot more money, I'd buy tons of pro vulcans just for those crushing drives. I still keep one bagged for COMPLETELY open holes with a 0 chance of hitting a tree/road/rock/dirt.
