Probably the most beginner friendly high-speed driver.  Really lets you maximize distance without needing a ton of strength.  With less power behind it, it's a beautiful curving flight path that makes an excellent tailwind disc.  With more power, you better release it with a lot of hyzer or that sucker's turning over and never coming back, even in heavier weights.  So it can be finicky.  But if you get it right - oh baby.  It's beautiful.

Would not reccomend for narrow fairways or head/cross winds.

I was given a gently used Star Vulcan a few weeks ago. Apparently their performance varies wildly depending on the plastic and even disc to disc, all I can say is mine is an absolute bomber. I'm RHFH dominant and maxed out twice at 365' with a Thrasher. My 3rd time to throw my Vulcan I hit 420' on a slight downhill slope. I haven't been able to replicate it since but I consistently beat 365.

Definitely an understable disc that needs to be released on a nice hyzer line, but it stands up immediately and carries forever. In a perfect world it wouldn't fade late as hard as it does, but it's a very small complaint. I really like the concentric ridge about an inch inside of the rim, it gives me a good place to put my thumb and ensure a hyzer release.

I couldn't recommend this disc enough, although you may need to go through a couple of them to find results like I have. Some Vulcans are apparently very overstable, which is bizarre.

A Roadrunner on steroids. In the right conditions, this disc can fly ridiculously far. I've thrown my longest drives with this disc, which is about 450 feet, on a huge turnover shot, but I've also thrown it about the same distance on a roller. The downside to this disc is that it does not hold up in adverse winds. It will flip right over or get blown way off course. Overall a fun disc to work on distance though. One of the easier high speed drivers to shot shape with

The disc I got happens to be very stable compared to the flight numbers. This honestly flies very similarly to a wraith/destroyer in my case. Not what I was expecting, and for that reason I gave the low rating, however if that is what your are looking for then yes, it could be great!

I received a star/star echo one of these a few years back and looking at it's rating, I was excited to throw it. After a dozen or so attempts, it was clearly not the disc for me and definitely didn't throw to it's numbers (so maybe something's wrong with mine). It flies closer to a 11/3/0/3 Which doesn't match it's numbers at all. After 250 ish on a flat line, it'd hard crash left with RHBH. So it acted very stable/overstable for me. I'll give it another try when the snow clears up but I was sorely disappointed with this one.

I bag a Vulcan. I have several Vulcans in Blizzard and one each in Star and GStar. The Vulcan is one of the farthest flying discs for me, along with the Mamba and Wraith. I don't have much power, but the Vulcan still follows an elongated S-shape. It needs room to work, though, so I don't use it in tunnel shots.

Throw it flat to get a bit of turn, then a long straight flight with a reasonable fade at the end. I can throw the 150 Star Vulcan as far as the 140 Blizzard Vulcan.

On the downside, the rim is quite wide (it's a 13 speed, so no surprise), and the edge is a bit sharp, so it's not the most comfortable disc to hold. But for me it's worth it to have the extra distance.

I wouldn't recommend this to a rank beginner, but someone who's been throwing a year or so, even someone with a slower arm, may get some good distance from this disc.

    Disc - 169 Star Vulcan

Feel - The Vulcan has a very interesting feel as it felt like it had a bit of an awkward shoulder where the flight plate met the rim. This could have just been the specific disc that I received but it did not feel great in my opinion. It has a very wide rim so players with smaller hands beware.

Flight - The Vulcan is extremely flippy. It is very difficult for anyone to throw with any armspeed at all because it is so understable that it wants to turn over into the ground. I could see players with slower arm speeds possibly getting some use out of this disc but they would probably be better off throwing slower discs at that point anyways. I am not a huge fan of this disc because it is such an understable driver that it almost benefits no players.

Overall - Not a huge fan of this disc as it just seems like a marketing scheme from Innova to get players with slower arm speeds to throw extremely fast discs when they probably won't get any extra distance from them.

I have tried to step into the world of max speed (13/14) drivers, and every time I seem to have ended up with a disc that is a meat hook in all uses, regardless of my improvement in form. Until I gave the Vulcan a shot. I started with a GStar vulcan in max weight, and it's a strange feel in the hand, but it somehow felt right. It was worth it, because this thing actually got the distance as I thought it would. It still may not turn as much as I would like but it gets the job done when I have BIG distances to cover. I also have a Star Vulcan that is pop top and seems to be a bit more stable. They compliment each other very nicely! If you can get past the grip, this is a VERY nice and FAST driver.

Used this disc to get back into the game. I always threw forehand and bought a bit before I understood flight numbers. It worked great initially but with more backhand power it would always turn over, which is expected being a -4 disc.

Now, I can throw about 325-350 backhand and this disc does not flip. While it's not amazing power, I think it should be enough to get this to turn over but it does not. Tried turning it into my roller disc and that didn't work either. Thinking either the  manufacturing is off (unlikely with injection molding) or the ratings are off.

Admittedly, I do not throw a lot of Innova anymore so it could be my calibration to Innova ratings. I throw a couple similar rated discs from other manufactures that do indeed turn over, and make great rollers.

Very beginner friendly for forehand, getting advanced for backhand or roller.

I got the Vulcan as a beginner in maybe 2016. I've always used it as a forehand driver but found it somewhat inconsistent in the air. Mine is broken in and I use it as a long-distance forehand roller. I throw this thing as hard as I can completely flat. It turns and sticks to the ground at an angle and starts running. It stands up slowly and eventually rolls over. I love this disc for a long-distance utility roller. 4 stars instead of 5 because it's pretty inconsistent when thrown in the air, but a hell of a roller.

This disc was the one that taught me to throw. I gained 200 feet of distance when I was learning how to drive. It still has an essential spot in my bag as a roller and I managed to find one that was more beefy that I use as my go to distance driver. It doesn't get a lot of hype, but it is one of the few discs out there that is understable and can fight the wind. It has magical powers I guess. I have bigger hands, so the wide rim feels great.

This disc is not for the faint of heart. if you don't have enough power to throw it then it will never do what you want it to do and if you overpower the shot or put even a little bit of Anhyser on it then it's going to go flying off on a Wild Tangent. however, if you need a disc to snake around a Target at a great distance and come back around reliably then this is the one for you. Just got to make sure you hit that speed in throw flat.

The only reason this disc may not be beginner friendly is because of the speed of the disc, that is what gives this disc the slight bit of stability that it has. I threw this disc for a short while when I first got it, and then put it away... this may be the worse decision of my life. The Vulcan is more stable than people may think with the -4 turn, but don't think that this means that this disc is only a roller disc. This disc definitely does finish with a bit of fade; but don't get me wrong, this disc does go right. This is a lot more versatile than just a roller disc so definitley get one and see what you can do this with because when thrown right, the Vulcan can definitely be one of the furthest flying discs in  your bag.

This is probably my favorite understable disc right now. I can bomb an extra 50 feet with this thing on an anny flex to turnover drive, and throw it almost straight to a slight fade with a hyzer flip, even with my intermediate arm.

The Vulcan seems like a less stable Katana. Both discs look and feel the same. Both are very thin with a wide rim. Vulcans are all over the place when it comes to stability. I've never seen a really beefy one, but I've seen quite a few very flippy ones. Its a finicky driver that must be thrown with hyzer to keep it from flipping into the ground on hard throws. The Vulcan is an S curve driver that needs some room to move side to side in its flight path.

Distance capability is there. If you throw a Vulcan hard and with the right amount of hyzer it'll zip quickly about as far as anything on the market today. Finding that magical line can be difficult though. Some practice is needed with the Vulcan to figure out how to best hyzerflip it for max distance. Glide is good, but not exceptional. I personally like the Vulcan, but for what it does as a disc on the course I'd rather use a Tern or Shryke.

I can't highly recommend the Vulcan for understable distance. Its too finicky of a disc to throw consistently. It will bomb for max yardage, but the Shryke will do it better. The domier the Vulcan you have, the better. They're slightly more stable and glide better than the flat topped ones.

I have a 163 Star Vulcan (a little light for me but it was a gift) and it is one of my favorite distance drivers in my bag. Brand new, it is much more overstable than its numbers would suggest. It still had a good bit of turn, but probably more of a -2. But after breaking it in, this disc really shines. I can throw it with a good amount of hyzer angle and get it to flip up, turn a lot, and still come crashing back. On an average day, I can throw it a good 380-420'. The farthest throw I've had with it is 465'. I do have a pretty big arm, so I can also throw this on a hyzer and get it to turn into a roller. Even if you don't have a big arm, I would still recommend this disc for you as it will definitely add distance to your drives. I use it mainly for wide open drives due to the large amount of turn, but it also makes a great disc for short skip shots. I will definitely be purchasing another one in a heavier weight.

I would first like to say that off the tee box I throw  about 280-310 .

I purchased this disc because of the detail description.

The Star Vulcan detail description says (not word for word but close) that this disc is an understable disc for players that don't have the big arm.. Fly's straight and far...This was the disc I was looking for at the time. It felt real good in my hand and I couldn't wait to throw it.

I went out to soccer field where I practice 28 out of 30 days in a month.X9 as I have been playing for  the past 9 months.

At the field I threw this disc approx 40-50 times and the below mention took place.

After I released the disc at approx 100-150ft  the left hand turn blinker came on and  veerd  to the left hard...This disc in no way is an understable discc..Nor can it fly straight. This disc is not anything the detail description reads..

Is this a good disc? It's a good disc if you are looking to cut threw wind .It's a good side arm dicc too.

I have a pro beast by Innova and the champion beast is a whole different animal..I highly suggest you be very careful purchasing a disc with the same namebbut different plastic as the two don't fly near the same as each other..I am seeing this review across the board so, I hope this helps you and you don't get mislead in the future and purchase a disc that says one thing and does another.

    Good Luck

This disc is fast and domey. You know how you can push down a Snapple bottle top and it will pop? This disc can essentially do that, which is pretty wild. With that dome, the glide is pretty insane.

I got a used star Vulcan to just play around with dyes on. I never tossed it due to the the thick rim (I have dainty little hands) and the printed flight numbers. However I took it out to the field and...well this one surprised me.

From the numbers, I expected something that was going to be super flippy, given its rather beat up condition I figured I'd be rolling it. Nope. Not at all. Thrown flat and hard, I got a long controlled turn with a strong fade at the end. Over and over I repeated the throws, from flat to hyzer to anhyzer, and each time it surprised me with how far it went for me. The headwind on the field didnt even turn it into a roller. I am impressed.

The Vulcan doesn't want to get to the ground. There were a few throws I put low, and thought "yeah, that's 250" but nope, it fought in the air to 300ish. Throwing on a lined field, I was able to get the exact distance pretty easy. On average, I was getting this to 340-350- a solid 20-30 feet further than I normally throw.

For intermediate players with modest arm speed, the Vulcan is controllable and far. For more powerful players I would think this would be a bit squirrelly. For my current arm speed, this disc is perfect.

I bought this disc randomly because it was priced as a DX plastic even though it clearly says star on it.  I love this disc for my throwing style.  I had to learn how it wanted to be thrown and it was a bit frustrating but ten throws in i relaxed and sent it farther than i have thrown any disc.  I have rotator cuff problems and i worked out most of those issues over time by disc golfing. Now that i can throw pretty hard, if slowly, i found the Vulcan to get very far very easy even in windy conditions.  I tried Destroyers and i didnt get any farther than my undertaker. I have a handful of first run undertakers that i love for any shot within 400' but for max distance the star Vulcan is my go to. Like any disc i have thrown, it has its own personality and needs some patience to figure out.  Slow strong arms with good wrist snap should have no problem getting the Vulcan to go really far and get you in Birdie range.

I had a star Vulcan once upon a time and I did not like that disc one bit. It was far too inconsistent of a disc that I could not get to fly how I wanted. The disc is okay for beginners, but even that is a stretch because it is too high of a speed for many beginners to get the disc to fly correctly.

The disc could make a good roller disc for a few people I suppose, but I don't know if the rim shape would be that great for a roller. It is really wide and uncomfortable in the hand even for individuals with larger hands.

I have a 168g Star Vulcan flies great.  This disc has a bit of turn to it so it's best used on the more open holes but it can also be hyzer flipped.  I don't find the rim to big or difficult to get a good grip. The Vulcan can be thrown into a light head wind but it is not what I would use on the real windy days. I would not say mine is a -4 turn I would put it as a bit more stable about a -2.5.  Really can't go wrong with a Vulcan would recommend it for someone looking for a first driver above speed 10.

I found a 171g Star Vulcan some time back and recently purchased a 166g disc to see how they fly for me now that my power level is starting to advance.  The description of the Vulcan says it's easy to throw far but I disagree.  I can get the disc out fo the low 300' range (I know that isn't getting the disc up to speed) but I would say the Tern is an easier disc to throw farther.  I have a 161g, 167g, 170g, and a 175g Tern and they all fly further for me.  I even have a 162g Gummy Champion Tern and I can put very little effort into that disc and throw it as far as the Vulcan.  My Vulcan is still new and I haven't hit any trees so I'm sure if I bag the disc and use it more that it will become more understable and easier to control but I find the Terns, D3's in the 158-163g range, and lighter Star Bosses to be further flying discs and easier to control.  Just my 2 cents as an Intermediate player.

I found a 171 gram Yellow Star Vulcan buried in the bushes in Indianapolis.  All considering, a pretty lucky find.  I already had an overstable speed 13 driver, so I was glad to find an understable complement to that.  And so far it's been a great complement to my bag.

However upon first throwing, I was surprised at how overstable the Vulcan was.  As I got more comfortable with it I realized how much it needed to be broken in.  I by no means have a cannon for an arm, but I do have enough speed to turn a seasoned Boss.  As time went on I have seen it begin to break in for me.  I still have yet to see a -4 turn, but that could be anything from a my arm strength to not having broken in the disc yet.

That all being said, the Vulcan has been a great addition to my bag.  Some of my farthest drives have been with this disc.  I have been able to throw it comfortably both forehand and backhand and put some serious distance on it.  I'm definitely beginning to get more turn out of it as it seasons.  Definitely a great addition to my bag!

I have been trying to use the Vulcan for about a year now and I just cant get it right. I can throw other high speed drivers such as the Katana and Destroyer, and I can get some flip out of those. For some reason no matter how hard I throw the Vulcan I just can't seem to make this thing turn over. I do have a particularly heavy one, but I have still been a bit disappointed in the disc.

So many beginners saying they're throwing this disc for max distance...saying max distance for anything under 400 feet is a little odd.  I throw a Boss or Destroyer off the tee for anything over 350 that's straight or left finishing.  For a huge anny shot, I'll reach for the Vulcan.  It's the only disc I can whip out there and be confident it's not going to turn and burn to the right without getting proper flight.  For tail wind days, hyzer flipping this disc out to 500ft or more is a breeze.  For max distance the vulcan needs room to work since it's understable.  Even on a hyzer flip it'll turn a bit before hooking up.  If you've got an arm, either the mamba or this disc will work as a turn over driver if you're not using beat in destroyers.  I guess if you're newer and have an understanding you can use the disc as a crutch for distance with bad form since it'll usually turn before fading, but I have a feeling most of these newer players are getting a straight flight out of this disc and not utilizing it's true potential.

I got my 168g Star Vulcan for pure distance when I first got it. I've always loved my Star Vulcan. It was my max distance driver when I first got it, and I used to have my farthest throw ever with it. I threw this disc 515ft. by doing a 360 backhand throw into a somewhat strong left to right crosswind. I have changed the purpose of this disc as I have gotten better but it has always had a use for something. I now use it for very long distance anhyzers backhand and pure distance forehand. I am not the best forehander but this is my go to forehand disc for pure distance. I love the way it fits in my hand forehand, and I almost always get a nice smooth release with it. This disc has taught me how to forehand better. My farthest forehand throw was 410ft. with my Vulcan. I usually forehand my Vulcan between 340-380ft. on a good throw. I can get it to turn a lot but for the most part it turns just enough to go far and then fades out of it nicely. Backhand, I use the Vulcan for big sweeping anhyzers. I can also throw hyzer flip turnovers and eventually I will probably be using my Vulcan for max distance rollers. This disc has been my most versatile, understable, long distance driver.

The only thing this disc can't handle is a headwind. For the most part, this disc is good for tailwinds due to it's understability, but if it's a strong tailwind, the disc is too fast to maintain good glide.

Throw it hard and flat and it'll do exactly what it says it will: it'll give a nice, long turn out followed by a short and quick fade. All my longest drives are with this disc, and it doesn't take a super powerful throw to get it to really fly. My favorite long distance driver, and it'll always have a place in my bag.

Two. 167 Star and 166 Star. I throw these when I have open distance shots. If I'm worried about obstacles or more accuracy I disc down to a fury, boatman, or a northman depending on the angle. This disc or both of them are fun to hyzer flip and the newer one holds nice hyzer lines as well. Long distance shots are what this disc excels at, which should be evident from the warp speed rating. I trust them both and there's a reason two of them are still in my bag when I mostly throw trilogy.

Hard to manage, unpredictable fade. I have thrown this disc multiple times, and now I've learned to only use it if I need to make a sharp right turn. I have almost lost this disc in the bushes more times than I can count because it made the turn even sharper than I needed it to. I keep it in my bag for one specific hole at a nearby course, and it sits in my bag otherwise. I can definitely see uses for it, but the straight courses around where I am are definitely not those cases.

This is my favorite driver. In the star plastic it has taken a long time to break in, but it does what I expect on every throw now. A tight grip, slight hyzer release, and a lot of power, keep this disc flying straight for a long time, with a predictable fade at the end.

I lost my Pro Vulcan, but now I have a 172 Star Vulcan. The grip on this disc may feel weird to some, but you can't argue with the flight. On a hyzer release, this disc flips up and stays straight for a while, until diving left. On a hard flat release, this disc turns gently and just goes super far. I've had my longest drives with this disc. It's also a great long-range roller.
