The Shield is the overstable Westside putter that was used as part of the 2014 Trilogy Challenge. This putt & approach disc is more stable than the Swan and a straighter flyer than the Westside Harp. This is a very tall disc at 2.5cm tall, and is relatively flat. Like all Westside putters, this disc will be available in the BT plastic blends.

Currently my favorite putter.  I started off with a Dagger but wanted something a bit less deep. Great disc all around.

I throw this disc in all three BT variations currently and have found it really is almost three different discs. However, each one for it's own purpose is absolutely money 150-180 feet and in.

BT Hard - The most overstable, though it is still a soft fade. For straight to 10-15 feet left finishes this does not miss for me. The plastic holds up nicely with some power on release (no wobble) and tends slide vs. skip real nice on finish. Great driving and long approach putter.

BT Medium - Dead straight approaches and putts in the 25 - 35 foot range, this excels. Same plastic as the DD Classic Blend, firm but still slightly tacky. Prefers smooth pull and a bit of snap vs a lot of arm speed (less wobble).

BT Soft - This is a flex shot approach monster. Similar to a shorter Mako 3...enough anny it will keep the line to the ground....slight anny it will kind of fight out, but just kind of flattens and drops. This plastic sticks where it lands, no skip, very little slide. Does not like power or snap as much as the other two plastics but inside 125 feet it is nasty.

Really pleasantly surprised with this mold as an approach disc though I am pretty sure once the Medium and Hard beat in some more there likely won't be need for the soft plastic.

Im a big fan of the shield. Definitely my tournament time putter no doubt. The BT soft feels real gummy especially after it gets worn in. It doesn't do too bad in the wind either, but I would definitely use something else in windy conditions. The best part for me is even when its gets a little wet it doesnt get slick at all. It always feels the same in my hand. As for a driving putter the BT soft makes it slightly difficult, but if you just throw it with a nice smooth delivery you will be pleased. It wears in nicely and can stand a few hard hits here and there. I used to use a SS wizard, but the shield has definitely overthrown that.

When I played in the Trilogy Challenge when this disc was first released, it was the only one I fell in love with. It's a nice stable putter that works outstanding off the tee as well. I use the soft plastic for putting and they stick really well. I can use it off the tee as well when I don't need a huge skip, but the medium plastic feels great in my hand for drives as well. All in all, a Top 3 disc in my opinion.

I tried this disc in BT Medium plastic during the first Trilogy Challenge and I was instantly impressed. I bagged this disc after the first round. This disc actually bumped the Judge from my bag for my main putter and as a putter-driver. I now bag two of them and when the BT Hard is released I certainly inted to try it out as well. I can throw this disc full power and it still holds a nice straight line and finishes straight-to-left. It is very controllable and has held up well in BT Medium and BT Soft. I have a bright green and light blue BT Soft in the bag, both in 175g mold.

First impression were good. Liked the grip and overall feel of the disc. Has a clean flight. However by the end of the Trilogy Challange I was done with it. Too bouncy for me. I had five putts bounce out of the basket. Boing, boing, boing.

    Overstable? Hardly.

My daughter played in a Juniors Trilogy Challenge this year and had a great time. Her least favorite of the the Trilogy discs was the Shield. Therefore, I had to try it out!

A bit on the plastic: BT plastic (which is also Zero by Lat64 and Classic by Dynamic Discs) is grippy but not very durable. You will notice bruises and scuffs almost immediatley with any BT disc. The hard tends to chunk less than the soft, just a little FYI. All in all, a great base plastic but dont expect it to last forever.

I found the Shield to be quite neutral, even at high elevation. When thrown with some heat behind it, the Shield would go dead nuts straight with very little fade. When the power was backed off, or a touch of hyzer was added, the fade become more evident. Turning the Shield over and keeping it turned over was never an issue. It wouldn't flip like the Westside Swan, but would instead lock into the anhyzer angle. Putting with the Shield, even with its somewhat odd rim (that feels like a bead, yet it has no bead) was very intuitive and I had no issues with it at all.

In conclusion, while the Shield isn't nearly as overstable as it was advertised to be, it is a perfectly passable putter. Not anything special, but if you like Westside, you could probably find a spot in your bag for the Shield.
