The Shield is the overstable Westside putter that was used as part of the 2014 Trilogy Challenge. This putt & approach disc is more stable than the Swan and a straighter flyer than the Westside Harp. This is a very tall disc at 2.5cm tall, and is relatively flat. Like all Westside putters, this disc will be available in the BT plastic blends.

Honestly when I first got the Shield I was disappointed because i intended it to be a putter and it just wasn't good at all for putting. I mostly attribute this to the VIP plastic being too 'slippery' for my taste in putting, but it is also too deep for a good fan grip with my average size hands.

As I transitioned to using it as an approach disc I have learned to love and rely on this disc. If you are a fan of dead straight approaches as opposed to hyzer approaches, the Shield is the disc for you. It's stable enough to hold straight with power up to 250-ft with flat release. It has a subtle fade at the end which is nice for when you over power or throw with a little anny on accident.

After about a year of consistent use it has some turn to it, but I still use the same Shield for straight approaches, just with a slight hyzer release. The VIP plastic has pretty nice durability and I like the feel for drives off the tee as well.

I was very disappointed with the Shield.  I love most Westside and Trilogy discs but the Shield didn't meet my expectations which were based on the flight numbers.  I may have gotten a bad run but the Shield I threw was very understable.  Whether thrown with power, snap, slow, or putting, it turned too far to be useful for putting or driving.  It may be useful for someone new to the game to fight the early fade so common for new players.

The VIP Shield was a fun one for me to try out! I was able to get some throws in about 35-40 degree weather at 4500' elevation.

The VIP Shield was much more stable than I was expecting it to be. When I checked out the disc I thought it would be neutral to understable, but it is definitely more Straight-Stable.

It held up in a headwind pretty well, nice and straight. In a tailwind, the Shield had a dependable fade at the end of the flight.

I only took a star rating off because I am not a huge fan of how it feels in my hand, I am more inclined to throw a putter with a lower profile. I didn't try the Shield as a putting putter because I don't putt with slick plastic. I would be interested to try the neutral plastic shields.

Overall, the Shield is a great addition to the Westside Lineup. The VIP was nice and stable but not overstable. Dependable and a great option.

This is a great straight putter. I love the feel of the shield in the hand. In my opinion, this is better from outside the circle for me. I like to drive with it and putt long but I don't like it for closer putts very well.

The VIP Shield is my favorite putter for shots off the tee and approaches.  I can throw it with a decent amount of power, and I don't have to worry about it turning over.  It even holds up well in a headwind as long as I don't try to kill it.  Any shot from 60 to 200 feet has me pulling my Shield out of the bag.
